Boycott The Lass O'Gowrie Pub

i'm not going to pass judgement on the situation that happened with the op as i obviously wasn't present for this incident.

However, i will say the lass is my local for my working day as my place of work is quite close and i have often popped in for a lunchtime pint over the years. I have also visited for the odd blues match and i only have good things to say about this boozer.

Gareth and his staff have always been friendly to my work collegues my friends and myself. He is aware i'm a blue and because i'm a regular even charged me cheaper rates on the real ales he serves.

I admit that i haven't watched many games in the lass, but all my experiences have been good ones.

Many years ago I was drinking in the lass before the stockport county home game at Maine Road. I left behind my spanking new nokia house brick phone with a bluemoon ring tone. I realised after the game I had lost it and rang the number for it to be answered by the landlord at the lass saying it had been handed in, not sure if its still the same guy but if it is then he is a decent and honest chap.

I for one won't be stepping foot in this pub. Not because of anything the landlord may / may not have done/said/shown, just because I have no fuckin idea where it is

it's behind the BBC.

I'm continually shocked on here that people don't know where it is, I only lived in Manchester for three years and I know where it is.

For the record I think it's an okay pub, neither poor nor great, I watched the derby where we got fucked by Scurvy Time in there...

Where`s the BBC? Haven't they moved to salford quays?

Still on oxford road...think its charles street down the side of the bbc that the lass is on.

Not sure who's right or wrong on this as I wasn't there, but I think the landlord's gone to great lengths to put his side of the story and fair play to him. I'm pretty sure he could have been doing something more useful with his time.

However, one thing that even a once-a-year Christmas drinker would know is that the landlord's word is the law in his own pub.

Great boozer.
Let's try and close more of these places down, open up national, accountant led chain pubs instead and have another piece of our soul surgically removed.

Why should the landlord put the City game on in preference to any other?
He's a businessman who is trying to earn a living. If, as he claims, there were 15-20 people watching the Liverpool game, do you really expect him to switch the game off to please 3 people. What's to say that after those 15+ people walk out and go drink 4 pints each elsewhere that you didn't decide to go elsewhere after your pint.
The landlord would be barmy to piss off so many customers just to please a couple of people. Pubs are closing left, right and centre these days - he was quite right to leave the game on.

To say that City should be given priority is ridiculous - it's a business not a community service. My local has about 6 to 10 city fans in when the match is on, that rises to about 25 when the rags are on. The landlord is a Wanderers fan and hates utd. with a passion. But he has a business to run and has to do whatever it takes to sell beer.

I think the landlord's replies have been very dignified considering that people have suggested boycotting his pub. It sounds like the OP didn't get what he wanted and threw his toys out of his pram. It's a bit rich slagging a pub off for not getting behind a Manchester team when the OP could have gone to the game and seen it live at the ground - the tickets were only £15 after all so missing some of the game wasn't as big a deal as it would be for a league game.

If I go into town to watch the game I shall now be watching it at the Lass. The landlord has come across as a very reasonable man and seems deserving of my custom. I hope that a few other people can see that too and go along.
