Bradford City Fire

Bitter sweet memories of that day. Promotion for the blessed blues with a great 5-1 victory over Charlton and then tempered with absolute horror at Bradford. Sometimes these events truly bring home the fact that most everyday 'disasters' we all suffer are mere irritations. Hope Bradford do the memory of the 56 souls who perished on that terrible day proud. RIP.

Arent they all walking out in training tops with the number 56 on as well?

Remember a discussion on here about the fire and someone put a link on here to a video showing it start and how quickly it developed. Horrible.

Frightening just how fast a (relatively) small fire developed into an inferno; a matter of minutes.

The Bradford Fire and the Burnden Park Disaster are rarely mentioned by the media. It probably takes special requests or complaints from fans to get it noted.

Nice to hear. One of the other many English football tragedies that are ignored as opposed to Munich and Hillsborough.

Very true mate, I think some clubs just like to quietly mourn their losses and keep a low and dignified profile, whilst others, well we all know who and what they're about.

I was in an unfortunate position to have to watch the full and unedited versions of all the video's from that days events, it's 23 years on since I saw them and I still remember the horrifying scenes and aftermath, it's one of those things we see that stay with us until the day we die and the reason I still have a soft spot for Bradford City, so, for me, I sincerely hope they win, would be great to see a smile on their fans faces at the end.

Wonderful gesture for a tragedy that is still fresh in my mind today.

Unfotunately it wont be sponsored by AIG so wont get anything like the coverage it deserves.

Heard on the radio last night they've had a 30 metre long banner made in memory of the 56 who died

My mate at work was at Valley Parade that day and he still finds it difficult to talk about it.

He usually stays away from remembrances, but he went to the 25th anniversary memorial in 2010, and he found that very hard.

With Bradford being at Wembley today, I was thinking back to the fire that killed 56 of the fans that day.The YouTube footage is unbelievable (not sure how to post that on here). It happened on the 11th May 1985 but didn't hear anything about it last week, where as the Hillsborough semi final is spoke about every year is there a reason for this. Some football supporters won't even be aware there was ever a fire in a football ground in the 1st place,it's seems strange this is hardly ever mentioned...
