Bradford City Fire

By coincidence, we were on a school trip to Bradford on the Monday to visit the TV & Film museum. We had a bit of a whip round between us and sneaked off to Valley Parade to hand it in. We bumped into this big Scottish bloke who turned out to their centre forward Bobby Campbell. He took us to meet the manager, Terry Yorath. I was13/14 at the time and I'd never seen anyone so visibly upset.

Even though it was almost 48 hours after the fire, I can vividly remember there was pieces of timber that were still smouldering on the ground.

Not sure what/who BP was thinking of there.

They said the fire spread faster than a man could run, horrific pictures and still very upsetting.

Was this the same day we beat Charlton 5-1 at Maine Road?

I remember being in an Indian restaurant in Ashton that night, the news were showing the fire on tv, the whole restaurant stood in silence watching it.

Think you`re getting mixed up with his son,who at the time was playing football and collapsed and died of heart failure.
Yorath senior is still alive as far as I know.

My god I vaguely remember watching that game when I was a kid. Watching that was awful totally forgot just how horrific that day was

My apologies, it was his son I was thinking off. Head's a bit fuzzy today.

It was the same day that we celebrated promotion V. Charlton. The mood was euphoric, with a pitch invasion, and no doubt copious amounts of booze well into the night. Little did we know what was unfolding simultaneously across the pennines. Everybody kicked-off at 3pm then.
Bear in mind, this was pre-mobile phones, pre-social media, pre-24 hour rolling Sky News,
pre-omnipresent TV blurb in pubs. On the day, it was a gradual word of mouth thing with no real idea of fatalities. Not many people even took a hand held radio to the match. Different times, but just as shocking when the full facts became clear the following day.

it was, I remember it very well because I was at City with my mates, I was only 14 and my mum must have been worried sick about me, when I got home I remember her saying to me "they were only celebrating being promoted, just like you, and look what's happened"

we went up this day, we played charlton and won 5-1, was on train back to Donny when some1 said that there had been a fire at Bradford ground, shocking
