Breaking records/stats thread

Kevin De Bruyne has provided more assists than any other player in the Premier League this season. He is the first player to ever deliver 15+ in consecutive campaigns in the competition.

David Silva has been directly involved in 19 Premier League goals for Man City this season (8 goals, 11 assists); he last recorded better figures in 2011-12 (21 - 6 goals, 15 assists).

Kyle Walker has provided six assists in the Premier League in 2017/18, his best ever return in a top-flight season.

Nicolas Otamendihas made 2665 successful passes in the Premier League this season, at least 300 more than any other player.

If Manchester City get 99+ points this season they will achieve the highest top-flight points total ever in the history of English football - FACT.

The top 3 points totals for English top flight teams ever (converted to 3 points for a win) are currently:
1978-79 Liverpool 98 points (P42 W30 D8 L4)
1960-61 Spurs 97 points (P42 W31 D4 L7)
2004-05 Chelsea 95 points (P38 W29 D8 L1) [Chelsea currently have the best points per game total ever].

City are currently on 87 points (P33 W28 D3 L2) with 5 games to go. If they...
Win all 5 = 102 points.
Win 4 draw 1 = 100 points.
Win 4 lose 1 = 99 points.
Win 3 draw 2 = 98 points.
Do this and Manchester City become the best points winners in the top flight ever.

If Dyche or anyone else becomes manager of the season as a result it will be a complete and utter joke.

Great stattage. Finishing with 100+ points would be a huge statement and I think we will do it. This team deserves be remembered as The Centurions

Yep I've had my eye on that Tottenham season for a long while as "the most wins in a top flight season(31)" is a stat they are quite proud of.

We can still take that from them with 4 more wins. :)

Its only fair , after all they tried to nick our "largest attendance" record. (But failed as it's a largest attendance outsude Wembley). They did manage to steal the rags slightly less awesome largest league attendance record though.

We can, but their achievements and the Dippers are devalued because they got those points totals from 42 games not 38, Imagine what points total we could aim at if we had 9 games left.

I think you have to look at it as points per game to get a fair comparison

1978-79 Liverpool 98 points (P42 W30 D8 L4) 2pts = 68/42 = 1.62 / 3pts 98/42 = 2.33
1960-61 Spurs 97 points (P42 W31 D4 L7) 2 pts = 66/42 =1.57 / 3 pts 97/42 = 2.31
2004-05 Chelsea 95 points (P38 W29 D8 L1 2 pts = 66/38 = 1.74 / 3 pts 95/38 = 2.50

As you can see by both 2 & 3 points per game Chelsea have the best record.

City P33 W28 D3 L2 = 87 points 2 pts = 59/33 = 1.79 / 3 pts 87/33 = 2.64

We are comfortably ahead and should have the best record in English football history after this season.

I'd be interested to know when the last time anyone did the double over Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal in the same season, if at all? Anyone know?

So just to summarise -

Most points in a premier league season - 95 Chelsea 2005/05

Most points in an English top flight season adjusted for 3 points - 98 Liverpool 1978/79

Most points in a La Liga season - 100 Barca 12/13 & Real Madrid 11/12

Most points in a Serie A season - 102 Juventus 13/14.

Most points in a bundesliga seasons (adjusted for 38 games) - 91 (101) Bayern Munich 12/13.

So if we win our last 5 games, we'll have had the joint best league season in history across the 5 top leagues.

All this talk of records - can anyone confirm that City scored 104 goals and conceded 100 goals in season 1957/8. -?
I believe they finished 5th and Joe Hayes scored 25 goals that season.
I have tried to look on Youtube but they do not have any stats. about 1957/8 season
Cheers

I dont think you can directly compare 38 & 42 game seasons. Best points per game in history is chelsea in 05. If we beat 95 points we hold the record.

If you times out ppg this season by 42 games we are on course for 110 points by the way.
