Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Maybe cos he’s being flogged to death
It's a disgrace how little protection he gets from officials, but I don't think that nearly covers his issues with finishing. OTOH, I thought his performance in winning and controlling outlets and laying the ball off to others was generally quite good today, and has, for the most part, been good recently.

You should check Brenford's record at home in the Premier League.

I was satisfied with the point and performance because I can see City improving and I expect further improvement when DIas and Bobb return

Yeah, I am aware that Brentford have been playing well at home this season, so I thought tonight might be tough for us ...... but my point is that teams like Arsenal and Forest have won there this season because they really WANTED the three points , and were absolutely determined to get them, just as we ourselves had done at Brentford during some of our previous title winning seasons ..... when you have players who are determined go 'the extra mile', you sacrifice everything to fight off ANY late onslaught from the home side in order to hold out for those three points, you mark opposition players properly, you block shots and crosses any way you can , you put bodies in the way and remain organised etc ..... i saw very little of that from City in that final 15 minutes tonight, aside from Ake blocking that shot on the line .... we were creaking at the back, losing midfield battles, and once they had pulled a goal back you just KNEW an equaliser was coming.

I can't excuse City because we had 15 minutes left to play, we had got ourselves into a great position, were two goals up, yet all we ended up with was one point ... and we could easily have lost all three!

For me it was poor defensive organisation, poor game management, and the midfield, at that late stage, were of little help either ..... we had no control over the game as Brentford poured forward in search of rescuing the match.

Bobb should give us an extra option, he's an exciting player ... but I would question Dias this season, he's full of injuries, and he's looked far from his best on the odd occasion that he's played.

We simply can't control games anymore in the same manner, and Pep's style of football requires little room for error in possession otherwise it leaves you completely exposed, just by the very nature of how high we get up the pitch.

As I said on a thread last week, the signs were there last season despite getting over the line, but there was a period last season where every goal we conceded were almost identical to each other, when we couldn't defend after a turnover of possession.

Until we get some new legs and players who can start controlling a game again, these results will be the norm.

Sorry guys but I just don't see the point of bringing on Gundo for Kova, even at 2-0.
We've seen over 2.5./3 months now that Gundo is giving us absolutely nothing at all, and that continued tonight. He barely touched the ball.
Pep? What are you doing?
Wake up, FFS!!!
That was a winnable game!

Thank fuck for Ake!!!!
Prior to the game, I'd have taken a draw, so, all ok in my head, but, we could have had all 3 points.

Lost opportunity to pick up points when both liverpool and chelsea both dropped points.

Pep's game is built on possession and the control it gives. Gundo for Kova reduced both and let them back into the match. Strange you can't seem to grasp that is the key factor in our decline.
Agree and think that Grealish is the player you want to bring on at that stage to both hold the ball and draw fouls that waste time.

its like attacking players dont trust defence much, defence can expect no help from attacking players and midfield to filter out some attacks.

all a bit broken.

not much control in this game which is not what Pep prefers.

The fact is it happens consistently at the end of the game when the players are most fatigued mentally and physically…. Agree we could park the bus that’s the pragmatic thing to do - but you ain’t going to see a pep side do that… it’s exactly the same when we need a goal at the end of the last several seasons you never see us lump it into the box
I’m not saying park the bus, just be clever and run the clock down, feign cramp/injury and be ugly for 10 mins to see the game out and get the result!

If we’re willing to sacrifice 3 hard earned points over trying to look pretty and play attractive football for 90 minutes (which we didn’t do anyway) then what are we doing? We need points and results at this moment in time. Its inexcusable.

I just can’t believe how poor we’ve become at game management. What the hell is happening in our training sessions? It used to be one of our strong points, boring fans to death by seeing games out.

Bringing on Gundogan to see the game out? What is that all about Pep? He has gone physically and mentally as a player and unfortunately should never have returned to ruin his legacy

I thought Nunes was pretty good, and has been in the last few games he's played. There are far worse problems than Nunes to fix, like left back, defensive midfield, extra striker, play makers.
Could Gvardiol be a defensive midfielder

We were…………………
Insert appropriate verdict:
*Brilliant
*Improved
*Brainless
*Proof that Pep has lost it.
