Brentford (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Great first half. The second half was predictable and it seems we fall into the same trap that has seen us drop points in the final stages in three games already this season. Thankfully Brentford are crap, but that being said we should have had a much better control in that second half. We shouldn't be clinging on and we desperately need that second goal for a bit more comfort. Winning is positive and builds momentum, shame the international break is getting in the way of that now.

A team is always vulnerable when they go away in the champions league midweek then have an away game after that on the weekend, some encouraging play in the first half and then Brentford decided to have a go in the second.

Take it as progress that the team managed to do what they couldn’t do against Brighton, Arsenal and Monaco which was hold onto a lead.

We also have a goalkeeper who's poor with the ball at his feet. I understand he's a great shot stopper, but I don't understand the thinking of the club going from one of the best ball-playing goalkeepers of all time to one who's very uncomfortable with the ball at his feet. Especially when playing from the back is the 'DNA' of the club at every level, from under 8's to the senior team, men and women. Why not emulate PSG's approach to replacing Donnarumma and find a middle ground between shot-stopping and ball-playing? Oh, well. Too late now to question it, I suppose.
Nonsense mate

So do we have to start looking for a Rodri replacement sooner than we hoped …

Did he really give everything for that 4 peat and ballon dor ?

Watched the highlights back. Great goal by Haaland! What a beast he is, the way he burst into the area and held off the defenders. There's no one in modern football like him. The only player in recent memory who scores that is Shearer. For my other FOCs on here he reminds me of John Charles.

The second best moment of the game was from the ref in the second half for booking the Brentford twat who went down in a heap from the merest touch and rolled around with his hands over his face like he'd ben mutilated, the cheating mard arse. They should fine him a week's wages.
This play acting by players is now a disgrace. The more they roll the more they should be punished. If you’re injured you don’t move

They are f***** cheats

Are they, though? Every young keeper these days is training with the ball at their feet more than ever. I didn't expect the club to find a replacement keeper with Ederson's qualities, but I also didn't expect them to go from Eddy to a keeper who's notorious for being poor with the ball at his feet, to the point that PSG moved on from him despite winning everything available to them bar the Club World Cup.
Stop talking shite, he's the best GOALKEEPER in the world, if we want someone who can spray passes about lets get KDB back and put him in nets !!!

This one is for @Dodge. I went to Brentford yesterday with my youngest, fully aware of what the Brentford stewards are like after knowing of Dodge’s experiences and the repercussions. Despite this I was speaker to so rudely by one of the younger stewards at the entry (frisk) point that I reacted by asking why he thought he could talk to me like that. Despite having frisked me he told me (told not asked to empty my pockets), which I did and he asked me what was in my wallet - the “wallet” is a City one, literally tiny and credit card sized. He asked me what was in it - I told him (truthfully) that it was (a) my debit card (b) my bus pass and (c) my stroke association card (I had a stroke 4 months ago, and no not from mrs swales). He told me (aggressively) to take the cards out and show me inside (there is literally no room for anything other than these cards) and he had a look inside. I asked him what he expected to find inside - he said cocaine! I laughed and said I am a 66 year old retired accountant who is recovering from a stroke, and surely if I had cocaine one of the sniffer dogs would be all over me, stop being so stupid. At this another older steward came over and advised me that if I caused any more trouble (lol) I wouldn’t be going in. The way they spoke to me I wasn’t ready to accept however fortunately my occasionally sensible 16 year old son came over and said dad don’t say anything and just get into the ground. The older one said sarcastically at least your son has got sense, somewhat inflammatory given I’d done nothing wrong). I decided to agree with my lad and walk off. I have to say the stewards at the search point are twats who are looking to deliberately antagonise people (maybe not all of them but from several years experience many of them) and despite me knowing what they are like from what happened to Dodge I still fell for their antagonistic behaviour. Tbf I’ve never seen any issues from the stewards inside the ground, but beware of the cunts outside. Just to conclude, just after this I passed a sniffer dog, and safe to say it took no interest in my bus pass and stroke association card

Are you insane? He is an absolute goalkeeping god, his one to one save was brilliant, his command of the area and punching magnificent, his footwork is absolutely fine and will improve with City. Oh and I forgot to mention, he is the best goalkeeper in the world and we are lucky to have him

We do as City fans under-estimate most of the opposition and take away games we play for granted,
Brentford are no mugs on their patch and i think they have one of the best home records in the Premier League

Defo travelling away in Europe midweek, then to play away at the weekend does take its toll on the players, But i think it's more to do with a new squad and the players we have learning to gel with each other, but doing the hard yards takes time to learn, and yesterday we showed we can defend and shut up shop.

So yes, it's progress and lessons learnt with 3 points in the bag to take home and be proud of, but let's not underestimate teams like Brentford on their patch, with all the tricks in the book they use

It's just nonsense really, we went for him because we've been conceding too many silly goals. We're working around his short-comings, just like PSG did and actually he was one of the biggest reasons they won the treble. He's going to have to get better with it, is what it is, but his saves have been top draw and Pep himself specifically mentioned how secure the team feel when he comes for crosses (and long throws) - something Eddy, for all his good, hardly ever did to any degree of success.

Watched the first half then had to put my phone on flight mode as I was getting on a plane

After utterly dominating the first half and only scoring one, I fully expected to switch on my phone after landing to find we'd lost 2-1..... so that was a very pleasant surprise

Some examples of Nico reading the game & moving the ball quick, all very basic but effective stuf

I see some situations that i think he put himself in bad places and maybe got a little luck with the reff, but allright that includes with role he has, being the link between def and cm and mistakes happens all the time on the pitch but some positions is more crucial to make mistakes. But for now I hope you Nico G guys have right and can send me some told you so in my face.

We have to get used to having a goalkeeper again. It sounds daft saying that, but it's true
Ederson was more than a keeper; he was a sweeper-keeper and set up attacks and we played from the back,

Donnarumma is the best (Goalkeeper) in the world and nobody is better than him. Stopping 10 to 15 nailed on goals a season wins many points. Yesterday, he earned us the 3 points with that save, Ederson would have been rushing out and taking the man out of the game. Yes, he may have stopped the goal, but would have got a red card for bringing the striker down outside the box,

So it's 1.0 to the old-fashioned goalkeepers' union

I loved Eddie but almost certainly that was one all on the one to one. Donna Baby knew exactly what he was doing and handled it brilliantly. PSG’s loss is very much our gain, hopefully for the next 10 years plus
