Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

My pre match attempt at a joke backfired (they always do) as I spotted Toney and the referee pushing wheel barrows full of cash to their vehicles after the match!
Toney arranged / predicted a 1 - 2 with NO penalty to City, they cleaned up!

WTF was that today.

Laporte and Akanji, never again as a centre back partnership please.

Laporte only started to play well when he had the bandage on.

Gundogan, terrible game should've been crooked for JG

Foden, tried but wrong decisions all the time. The first one where Haaland gambled and launched himself! Just play it in Phil and let Erling decide how he finishes it!

Cancelo wtf, cost us the game. Couldn't be arsed tackling then gives away a needless foul in our half which is what they wanted, ball into the box and 0 - 1, he was fucking terrible!

Bernardo, wasted until moved inside but too late.

Alzarez, absolutely shit the bed with that chance! Broke his run far too early to shape up to pass instead of being direct, Haaland would've buried that opportunity.

Very disappointed with the game management, no attempt to change a fucking shit performance.
Wasn't only the Players who had knocked off early for the WC, looks like Pep was serving Club shop Klopps touchline ban today!

A cracking day ruined by a fucking shit match!

The officials though were fucking unbelievably bad. 10 minutes added, 10 minutes played despite half of that time being taken up with bullshit.
Ball was in play for just under 6 minutes of the 10. Shocking.

We have gone backwards, so far, this season. Haaland has won us more points than our performances deserved. Big improvement required after WC and please dear god, Txiki sign an actual LB.
Thats probably true. It’s hard to day why we haven’t played well consistently. We have incredible players but look disjointed. Doesn’t help playing central defenders in full back positions. We really need a couple of wingers and of course a quality left back. How many years have we been saying that ? Got to be at least 15 years or more which is quite incredible.

We're in un-chartered territory with the insertion of the World Cup bang in the middle of the season. The squad announcements this week and the impending start of the tournament takes focus away. Add to that a Brentford team featuring an overlooked centre forward with a point to prove suggested this match could be a banana skin, and so it proved. Our players lacked intensity, they lost so many headers and second balls and looked lethargic, going through the motions. I'm not sure it will get much better directly after the WC. We don't know what impact it will have on players, there could be injuries. We normally hit good form around Christmas and go on an unbeaten run but with the WC this might not happen until February. It's the same for all teams, but not all teams have realistic ambitions of winning the title, the impact will be disproportionate. The team that wins the league will be the one that handles the disruption the best. This game won't define our season and we are in a good position, probably best to try and enjoy the WC and look forward rather than pick the bones out of todays mess.

Looks like we could do with the break, but I really wish we had another game soon. Going to be a long five weeks.
Irrespective Arsenal will win the league, they seem to show more determination and purpose…given out of form teams (barring Arsenal) we should be pissing the league this year!!!

the stats are not that encouraging. 32 points from 14 games which using that average gets us to 87 points. enough to win the league but not enough to guarantee it

whats more concerning is who we’ve played - Liverpool we lost, newcastle rescued a draw, postponememts to games against arsenal and tottenham and two games against chelsea to come as well. so really 80-85 points is looking more like our level. if arsenal can just stay competent they should get there quite comfortably

You can't be pissing the league if another team has a record of 12W1D1L. Simply doesn't matter if your rival from last year has dropped off if that's how another team is doing.

And I'm not personally ready to throw the towel in just yet.

Chelsea not up to much. The matches v Arsenal will be decisive.

I think you could see this result coming after the Fulham game last week.

We've been very slow in the first half of both games, and then after that, just relied on Haaland to get us back on track.

On our day, we can beat anyone in Europe, but for now, we've got to concentrate on beating the likes of today's opponents!

Feels like pep is a bit concerned about losing gundogan and bernado, ie the game time they are getting bernado deservedly ye, in the correct position but gundo not so sure. Phil best 2 games v utd and Sevilla he played on the right can’t remember him there since. All very odd, as is the lack of a proper fullback.
I agree
Pep doesn’t want to bench Gundogan or Bernardo, and that is the start of our biggest problem

Gundogan in the middle doesn’t give us the creativity that we need from our midfielders..
Yes Gundogan is great in bringing the ball forward, but in the last third you need creativity more that anything else
What is even worse is that we lose the pace and the threat that we need from the right winger.. Foden or Alacarez would certainly be more clinical on the right side

I honestly don’t see other major issues
