Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

I couldn't believe that Jack was on the bench after his performance against Chelsea. I also don't understand why changes weren't made at half time. Pep had seen the struggle so surely, he should have introduced need blood and formation. But then I'm only an armchair fan 25,000kms away.
I was 60 yards Away and I saw the same as you! Why he didn’t I don’t know.

At the moment he is the catalyst in my opinion. He gets City as well.

Thats probably true. It’s hard to day why we haven’t played well consistently. We have incredible players but look disjointed. Doesn’t help playing central defenders in full back positions. We really need a couple of wingers and of course a quality left back. How many years have we been saying that ? Got to be at least 15 years or more which is quite incredible.
I think the last time left back wasn't the potential weak link of the team was either phelan or pointon. Compared to the rest of the team of course (!)

I get why changes weren’t made at half time, we were well on top at the end of the first half and it made sense to stick with it. I don’t think the Laporte injury helped us at all as we started the second half well too, the momentum went after that.

I would have made a change a lot earlier than he did and I do think we missed Grealish in general and also Bernardo’s energy in the middle. I also get why he stuck with what he did too though as we were getting into dangerous positions, the final third let us down a lot. We’re clearly still working out how best to play with Haaland in the team. Yes he’s scored a ridiculous amount of goals but we haven’t been as good in or out of possession consistently as we were last season, it completely changes our build up play and our transitions and I think Pep is still working out the best combos.

It’ll be interesting post the world cup, personally I’m looking forward to seeing him work it out. Games like today will solidify a few of the things that clearly don’t work. I thought this year would be a bit transitional, it’s such a big change.

My thoughts on all this, is everyone saying oh world Cup, well if the city players sat on a million a month are more bothered about playing for their country, rather than the club they sre getting paid handsomely to play for, then they need fucking off
So fuck them off and get who ?

The worrying thing at the moment is that we are conceding goals and conceding big chances. They could have been 1 or 2 up before they eventually scored. Ortega was our man of the match against Chelsea. I'd like to see our XG this season compared to the XG of the past two seasons, because it just feels higher. Even against United, probably our best performance so far, we criminally let them score 3.

Maybe it's as simple as getting Walker back and getting Rodri more protection with Bernie next to him, but there's a chance there's something else going on. Only so long you can have dramatic comebacks and last minute winners before you suffer it the other way.
