We were defeated by the narrowest of margins in Madrid and could have snatched an equaliser to send us through, had Pellegrini been more gung ho in the final few minutes. We was never going to win it with the likes of Sagna & Fernando that year, That Real Madrid team was unstoppable & we did good getting to the semis.
We should have won it 2 maybe 3 years on the bounce with Pep but we can't because of ludicrous decision making, In the final we had Gundogan holding midfielder with Rodri & Dinho on the bench, Cancelo & Aguero on the bench, we've been knocked out by Spurs & Lyon it's a joke.
(Ok, the margin of defeat may have been greater, but we would have gone down fighting at least).
Peps' worst decisions for me were in the ECL final against Chelsea.
Trying to out think the oppo manager and changing the set up from what had got us to the final was idiotic. The players were confused by Peps' selection/tactics and we were light in midfield.
Fern should have been on the pitch, (not shown chatting to Pep).
It's all very well trying to outsmart the oppo manager, but sometimes Peps' attempts to do this have outsmarted our team more than the oppo!
Pep seems to be failing more often these days by believing the hype that he is a genius and putting square pegs in round holes trying to be super smart.
At the moment, because of what he has achieved with City, I am prepared to cut him some slack, but the age old adage of, 'never change a winning team', applies.
