Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

Brentford wanted it more and got what they deserved, we were dreadful to put it mildly but i firmly believe this team will win the title

I know phil had a relatively good game but i don't like him on the left wing one bit, i think it makes us less fluid and slow. It's not a coincidence that in every game we've dropped points he has played on the left

The reluctance to change isn't new but disappointing as we seemed out of depth so there was certainly a case of freshening things up but pep let it slide

I can't understand why we persisted playing wide 95% of the time, one cross after another was either overhit or too easy for the defenders to deal with.

The best chance we created was from going more direct through the inside right channel only for Gundo to shank it over.

He also wants the ball in early and with some pace on it, how many times did that happen today?
Ah I see, Halland wants that to happen so it should? It's not always possible so maybe he has to adapt his game, like Sergio had to when Pep arrived

It’s our best points tally to start a season since 2018, it’s not our best level of performances to start a season since 2018.

We’ve been remarkably average for our standards despite accumulating a decent points tally.

We were only okay at West Ham, poor for a lot of the game at Newcastle, poor first half against Palace, very poor at Villa, just as bad at Wolves despite the different score line compared to the Villa game, poor in the last half hour against United, very poor at Liverpool, poor against Brighton, average at Leicester, very poor today.

We don’t look right to me. Don’t know if it’s mentally or finding our new way of playing difficult to get in a rhythm with or the fucking World Cup… whatever it is, we’re not ‘at it’ at all. Even when we do play well it’s isolated as a performance or even isolated to one half of a game and we don’t follow it up with any consistency.
Crikey when you put it like that it's worrying! Was about to say don't be daft but you are right and it's no different from me sat here wondering why we only ever play for half a game.
Perhaps it's because we keep making so many changes all the time.

Credit to Brentford. Although I didn’t think they were that great, they caused us a few issues at times.

Our lot should hang their heads in shame. One of the most unprofessional performances I’ve seen in a long while. Lacklustre at best. I hope they fucking stink the place out at the World Cup, every one of them. It’s obvious they were protecting themselves.

I’m not even arsed that we lost. It happens. It’s been coming in recent weeks. It’s the way we lost.
I agree. The entire team looked like they were bothering at about 70% effort and intensity today.

I’ve always thought that players care more about their countries than their clubs, and you can see that every time any team wins a trophy and the players get flags of their country to tie round their waist/shoulders… you never see a team win the Euros or World Cup and get a City flag out in their celebrations, do you?
(And this isn’t just City players, I mean all footballers)

But today was very disappointing how they seemingly cared more about their countries today when they were playing FOR CITY TODAY than they cared about City.

The positive is, we haven’t started playing well yet this season we’re only 2-5 points off the top.

Hopefully we can get this cunting World Cup behind us with as few injuries or fatigue as possible and go on a good run.
