Brentford (H) | Post-Match Thread

Just as an aside, if a striker blazes 20 shots over the bar and the keeper makes no difficult saves, did the attacking team create a good chance?
If it’s from distance then no. If it’s from right in front of the goal then yes.

It’s our best points tally to start a season since 2018, it’s not our best level of performances to start a season since 2018.

We’ve been remarkably average for our standards despite accumulating a decent points tally.

We were only okay at West Ham, poor for a lot of the game at Newcastle, poor first half against Palace, very poor at Villa, just as bad at Wolves despite the different score line compared to the Villa game, poor in the last half hour against United, very poor at Liverpool, poor against Brighton, average at Leicester, very poor today.

We don’t look right to me. Don’t know if it’s mentally or finding our new way of playing difficult to get in a rhythm with or the fucking World Cup… whatever it is, we’re not ‘at it’ at all. Even when we do play well it’s isolated as a performance or even isolated to one half of a game and we don’t follow it up with any consistency.

The internet is ace. Previously I’d have waited to read 17 Pink Finals before coming across such unadulterated bollocks .

Yeah, not sure Haaland is our issue atm. Fucking short memories on here. How do you adapt to overhit or underhit balls all day? He's not a miracle worker.
He grafted today, was even back defending in the last 5 when every fucker else was strolling back.
He didn't do much with the ball today but as always there is context to consider which seems out of the reach to many on here.
Not out of reach at all, Sergio banging goals for fun, pep comes in wants more from him, benched him, pretty much told him change your whole game or fuck off, now we have to change our whole play to accommodate haaland? Seems fair

Brentford wanted to win the game, city wanted to make sure they weren't injured for the plane to Qatar. Disgraceful performance in my opinion, I don't mind getting beaten but to be deservedly beaten, at home, by Brentford who realistically could have had 4 or 5 is not good enough. The league is not going to be the walk in the park that everyone keeps alluding t
Just back. Agree with this. City were so slow it was painful to watch. Only Emerson and Phil come out with much credit

I actually think we’re better with Alvarez up front. He’s more mobile and always looking for the ball and get involved in any passage of play. With our slow build up I’m worried we’re not going to be able to play to Haalands strengths which in involves open spaces and quick counter attacking play. Today was just awful but it was the type of result that was coming.

I agree. The entire team looked like they were bothering at about 70% effort and intensity today.

I’ve always thought that players care more about their countries than their clubs, and you can see that every time any team wins a trophy and the players get flags of their country to tie round their waist/shoulders… you never see a team win the Euros or World Cup and get a City flag out in their celebrations, do you?
(And this isn’t just City players, I mean all footballers)

But today was very disappointing how they seemingly cared more about their countries today when they were playing FOR CITY TODAY than they cared about City.
I think Bernardo should be exempted from that criticism and Stones should never be allowed to
play fullback. I was most disappointed with Kev though today. Not for having a bad game, as that happens to every player. It was his lack of a foul on the Brentford player after he’d pulled out of the tackle that led to their winner. Grab him by the waist and take the yellow, surely. You know they’d have done it the other way round.

All that being said, I thought they were very good and would happily have taken a point the way we’d played. 10 minutes injury time and they could have scored 3 or 4 summed up a bad day at the office. Perhaps this enforced break is just what we need?

Oh well, least that’s our new seasonal tradition of throwing away a point in the last minute out of the way.

Leeds, Spurs & now this one. Always when we’ve come from behind too.

Where's the lie? He's right, IMO
