What time frame was this? Who had Swales just sacked and who became.manager?
It was to replace Brian Horton in the summer of 1995. Appointing Kidd would have been hailed as a great coup at the time, but he wanted to go with Ferguson's backing and Ferguson didn't want to lose him either when we offered him our job or when Everton tried to persuade him to succeed Joe Royle in 1996. Finally, when Blackburn came in for him later and Ferguson tried to stop him from taking that job as well, he walked out and the two of them didn't speak for years.
Kidd was a disaster at Blackburn, though, and got them relegated with a side that never should have gone down. Alan Ball, who we appointed instead, was a rather underwhelming hire to say the least, but Kidd's performance at Ewood suggested he might actually not actually have been any better!
