Brian Marwood (merged)

Re: Well done Brian Marwood.

BlueMoon can resemble a bunch of teenagers hangin' with intent; noisy,
aggressive and looking for a victim. It's the nature of the beast.
No-one in football wants the circus that is the last day of the transfer window, but given the sums involved, the media quite willing to splash agent's vested propaganda to raise fees, wages etc., the whole thing is chaotic but unavoidable as long as there are deadlines to meet. Add in shocks when a deal falls through, or comes out of the blue, a contingency plan is essential. We appear to have had one,
The media have reduced our situation to Mancini versus Marwood but it was never so polarised, the club have a committee to control leavings and goings, including Kaldoon, who is never mentioned in forum debates but holds the keys to the safe.
Our new CEO will be in a position to judge whether B Marwood is the very best at his job or if there are better out there (likely, imo).
Still early days in the Sheik's project for world domination, but we are constantly improving as a club and a squad, despite missing some 'impossible' transfers.

Well I don't think he would say it direct to your face mate.
What a strange guy he is.

OK window in the end. We lost some good players and replaced them with ones equally as good....unfortunately this still resulted in us overspending as the money we got in was lower than it should have been for players like Ade and NDJ.
I think this window's best feature was clearing out the crap. We don't have to worry that Savic or RSC will somehow find their way onto the pitch and cost us dear. Our squad looks to have more depth and cover now. Basically we've tidied up.

In future I can see one big name per season but this was a time to bolster the squad players and rid ourselves of past mistakes.
However, Gary Neville is unfortunately correct, leaving everything to the last day is not good planning from Marwood or whoever.

We got away with it this time but it can't be allowed to happen again...ever. That is what Mancini is getting at and he's dead right.

I think you really answered it yourself, we have rid ourselves of the deadwood and also sent out the message we will not be mugged off.
We will now be able to dictate the next transfer windows on our terms.

Well done Brian, you followed your instructions to the letter.

Results justified the strategy.

It worked. If we had £30m to spend we'd have blown that all on one day in July on Garcia. There is a reason why a lot of business is done on the last day

All the players we have are now wanted and we're not left paying ridiculous wages for players who aren't playing and have no chance of playing.

Do you think we may have left our big signings to the last day to prevent Utd and Chelsea from reacting? I think if we had bought Maicon and Garcia 2-3 weeks ago we'd have paid a lot more and Utd and CFC might have decided they had to respond

Certainly another way of looking at it. Different strategies for different windows perhaps. In the future I'd like one wow player in at the start and let our rivals panic towards the end.

Re: Well done Brian Marwood.

The Javi Garcia fee speaks volumes about the way in which this transfer window has unfolded for us, and for Brian Marwood. He took a lot of unnecessary stick on here and in public from the manager of all people, so for him to deliver on what the owners wanted and what the manager wanted in the end is the ultimate vindication for him.

I would hope not. We don't need to worry about what they do, we need to focus on what we do.

Yesterday was a ridiculous state of affairs - suspect it will never happen that way again. In part because we have now shifted most of the Hughes crap at last (not including Nigel in that btw), but mostly because we need to do our business more efficiently.

Although I am very happy with our signings (Maicon and Nastasic in particular, and Garcia sounds a very good addition) it has taken us until the last minute to sign players that a) we didn't seem to want at the start of the window and b) we had no major competition for.

There can be no doubt the window didn't go to plan - whether that is because of Marwood's deficiencies or the situation we were in of needing to offload a number of highly paid players, or a combination of both, only those at the club know for sure. Certain it will be sorted though, and before January.
