The Javi Garcia fee speaks volumes about the way in which this transfer window has unfolded for us, and for Brian Marwood. He took a lot of unnecessary stick on here and in public from the manager of all people, so for him to deliver on what the owners wanted and what the manager wanted in the end is the ultimate vindication for him.
You were a near lone voice of reason on his fee yesterday when the handwringers were throwing their toys out of the pram saying Marwood was awful and likely to pay £24m.

Personal vendetta based on gossip and hearsay. You're not half way close enough to judge how he performs.

Let's the professionals decide who's replaced and who stays!

Fans have got to understand that since last summer out strategy has changed. Marwood doesn't have the luxury of Cook - offering financial packages to the club, player and agent that blows the opposition out of the game.

Looks like this will get interesting.......... :-)

Nah, popcorn cat not needed.

People are still talking about agent fees, transfer and the like. I've said previously, I don't care if we sign Messi, it's no reflection on Marwoods performance. Neither is signing noone. Transfers are stupid ways to solely judge somebody

Marwood is in charge of the whole technical side. I don't think we have a world class Academy, or a world class scouting department, or a world class PA team. This is his job. He has made some changes which I think are very, very good. Our player liason teams seem to work wonders, the time it takes new signings to settle in is almost instant, thanks in a large part to this. Our medical department is almost mythically good, thanks to both Mancini and Marwood. He takes credut for these.

I use the word incompetent too flippantly and give credit where credit is due. I also don't give credit where it isn't due. Marwood has done ok. I don't think doing ok is good enough for City. We wouldn't accept Mancini doing just ok, nor would we accept a first team player doing just ok.

All of these people defending Marwood constantly duck this one question.

Is Brian Marwood the best Director of Football in the world? Are there better out there that are available?

If you think he's the best, then fine, as they say it's a game of opinions. I don't. I don't think he is particularly well qualified, nor do I think that his performance in his job has been world class. We could have a better scouting system. We could have a better Academy. We could have a unified football philosophy.

Some would argue that Mancini isn't the best coach in the world - maybe 10 others coaches would have pissed the league but we will never know.

All we know is he hit the objective, winning the Premier League and we thank him for that.

The same should be said of Marwood. Unlike Mancini we don't know what targets he has been set by the Chairman - for all we know he could be held in high esteem. They may also judge we are over-achieving in the timeline of the project.

I have no reason to doubt the leadership of club or their Management Team - they have delivered so far!

Re: Well done Brian Marwood.

It wasn't only that our targets wanted to go elsewhere it was also that they were not we thought they were worth - had RVP been 12m and 140k a week for 3 years we may have tried to shift someone and get him in but at 23m , 4 years and 235k a week the cost was more than double. Same with silva - 40m and 200k plus a week. These are the main reasons we didnt sign the main ones mentioned. Also I have no doubt at the start of the window we thought tevez was gone and his change in attitude and fitness changed things big time

Do you think we may have left our big signings to the last day to prevent Utd and Chelsea from reacting? I think if we had bought Maicon and Garcia 2-3 weeks ago we'd have paid a lot more and Utd and CFC might have decided they had to respond

I would hope not. We don't need to worry about what they do, we need to focus on what we do.

Yesterday was a ridiculous state of affairs - suspect it will never happen that way again. In part because we have now shifted most of the Hughes crap at last (not including Nigel in that btw), but mostly because we need to do our business more efficiently.

Although I am very happy with our signings (Maicon and Nastasic in particular, and Garcia sounds a very good addition) it has taken us until the last minute to sign players that a) we didn't seem to want at the start of the window and b) we had no major competition for.

There can be no doubt the window didn't go to plan - whether that is because of Marwood's deficiencies or the situation we were in of needing to offload a number of highly paid players, or a combination of both, only those at the club know for sure. Certain it will be sorted though, and before January.

But I would say we actually did do our business efficiently, exactly by leaving much of it to the last day.
Because of our record of big spending in last few windows all the sellers may well have assumed we'd do same again. A window like this one was needed to call the bluff of clubs potentially selling to us.
We didn't get some of the managers initial targets, but that's quite right cos we werent prepared to get fleeced eg on hazard fee & agent fees. Again, that's a well run business (despite what Gary Neville says)

Also, how do we know there were no other clubs interested in the players we signed?

Well said Billy.

City are in a different pase of 'the project' now and our owners and chairman are imposing the boundaries within which Marwood and Mancini have to operate.

The time to judge was always when the window had closed.

Job done. Well done Brian Marwood.

A strange post! As far as I am aware, it was just some of the kids on school holidays, together with resident nutters, having ago at Marwood. Now you are commending an inference of 'poor Brian' and 'Mancini is a bully'. Congratulations if you know exactly what Bobby means all the time. Otherwise, it just seems like yet another cheap shot.

In contrast, I thought it was a mature display from everyone at the club with RM merely fighting his corner, as he is entitled to do in as the man in charge of the 'business end' of the business. Sadly, it's the same old shit on here and will be so until Mancini's gone. Be careful for you wish for. Anyway, your mate will be here any minute now to save the day. Cheers for that.

Actually in hindsight that's a stupid post which doesn't deserve a serious reply. Get over yourself.

Re: Well done Brian Marwood.

Waited too long for the transfers but we didn't overpay for anyone yesterday.

Let me know if you think of one, my friend. In the meantime, I've moved on as most other blues have, meaning that I have nothing to 'get over' but am merely looking forward with Mancini at the helm. Happy days...
