Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I wonder about some of the posts on here, we have lost the Ballon d’Or winner for the season, Alverez quit, Bobb got injured pre-season, Kev and Kyle struggling to stay fit in their 30s to cope with workload, Dias, Ake and Akanji, normally the mainstays of our defence, out injured, Gundogan not up to speed and maybe never will, and Phil still getting up to full fitness. Grealish and Doku out too. There is an argument to suggest we should have a bigger squad, but this is a uniquely challenging situation, so little wonder we are struggling to stay SECOND FFS!
I used to stay in the Miramar. I like Bournemouth but it was full of rags from my experience.

Cole didn’t do much today. Didn’t do much against us or the rags either

Which is fine to admit. Personally I think we have too many issues this year. We don’t look great even when we win this season and we are too reliant on Haaland scoring. The return from the rest of the forward players is abysmal.

Add to that Foden’s mystery dip in form and it’s not looking great for me.

We have to change tactics as the current ones are leaving us too vulnerable!

Mahrez was playing for Le Harve 2nd 11 at the age of 20. At that time Le Harve were a 2nd Division, French team. There is absolutely no comparison between rhe pair of them at the same time in their careers.

He does not need to buck up, hes a 20 year old kid who has shown more than enough to suggest hes going to be a great player. What he needs is support and encouragement so that he reaches his potential.
He could do with some end product extra training though. It's his first season so far to early to j7dge him. CTID

Not quite the quality and a position that we don't really have to strengthen.
Haaland and rodri are the only two players who specialise in their respective positions. Not sure which positions you think we need additions but I’d say most would say midfield and up front.

Out in the USA here so had to see the game later…
First half on top no doubt
Problems started around 60 minutes- Lewis was going forward every opportunity, total lack of appreciation of the situation.
Walker looked fooked and was not moving well so the brain farts set in.
Simpson - Pusey was rabbit in the headlights. Ederson was the only one able go clear the ball, so it was only a matter of time before Brighton found a chance.
As many have said already, no midfield cover for the back line when they were at their weakest point.

It's far from being panic stations but we've simply gone a bit stale. Haven't brought in the quality we usually do, don't have sufficient replacements in all areas, held onto a few ageing players a bit too long and re-signed one of them too. We're increasingly boring to watch and our play is boring and monotonous.

We're due a down year and if anything I feel it might light in a fire in Pep to carry on and make sure he ends on a high.

Injuries aside (and there's an argument that injuries were inevitable due to workload, squad depth etc) those are just examples of squad management issues. It's not as if KDB, Kyle and Gundogan were going to be younger; Stones & Ake are persistently injured; Dias was injured during a game he didn't need to play and Grealish has had personal issues since the treble win. Alvarez left during the transfer window and Bobb was injured during it. These were either known, persistent issues, aspects that were raised during a transfer window or would have been predicted. Even with Rodri, everyone, including Rodri, knew he was being overworked which increases the likelihood of an injury.

I'm not stating we should have bought a load of players etc but we didn't get this situation unexpectedly.
