Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

In the new Pep book, when things were going wrong in 2016/17 (for the start of 17/18) and then again in 20/21 he put a massive emphasis on passing. And controlling the game.

No loose passes, nothing silly, just pure control so we weren’t too open. And it worked. I presume he went back to that for Brighton because the first half was pure football. Control, chances and suffocation.

Then it went to shit in the second half because they made a sub and we didn’t change our game to suit it at all. Plus, it felt like when we were punched once then we were wobbling for the rest of the game. No leader out there.

Can’t wait for people like Dias to be back.

Christ, surely we can't pass much more than we already do. We pass every team to death and need 30 plus passes to get to the edge of the opponents area.

OK, we are still second in the table, though the last eight or nine games have, mostly, been disappointing. There may be all sorts of reasons, injuries, coupled with a couple of players dropping a bit in form and maybe a bit of discontent from one or two players. The essential problem is that you can’t keep two world class players for each position happy - hence a relatively small elite squad with backups who are good but not world class, at least at the moment.

It maybe that we have underestimated Rhodri’s importance in the way our system works - the statistics certainly back this up. Without him we seem much more frail to rapid breakaways and also seem to have lost some penetration up front. When Rodri plays Haaland is a real asset, when Rodri doesn’t play he is perhaps a luxury that we can’t afford especially without an on form de Bruyne. With all our players fit and firing Pep’s system makes us probably the best team on Earth. But with the current players available perhaps we need a plan B system.

Morning Fellas & Fellettes, was at the Amex on Saturday. City were fabulous first half and deserved a more than 1-goal lead. Brighton were fabulous second half and deserved their goals. It was a great game of football played by two excellent footballing sides. Reports of your demise are wildly premature. From a friendly voice on the south coast.

The book is a great read and this theme does come up numerous times. Grealish is known in the squad as the 'rest area' as they know they can rely on him to take the ball in and get up the pitch.

Having tortured myself watching 65 mins to 80 mins again, we had 4/5 chances to establish possession and 'defend with the ball' but gave it away cheaply.

We're also asking a 19 year old making his PL debut to direct the play - not Dias or Stones as you mention.

The mods here have always encouraged people to call fellow blues who aren't 100% positive about city all the time ever, rags or dippers. Of course followed by the mods actually banning those accounts too.
But but but they are the biggest and bestest blues in the whole wide world.

This team doesn't have the mental strength to stay ahead or not concede.

We NEED stones and Grealish and Kevin and dias, and ake and akanji and Rodri back.

Get those players back and we don't melt in these games and moments.

It's crazy how nearly our whole defence are out. (The sort of injury crises that lfc and utd and arsenal get headlines about)

Don't need another striker at all. Another midfielder is priority.
Don't think we can expect Haaland to be continually performing at his very best playing 90 minutes 60+ times a season for club and country. Also increases the risk of injury, and what do we do if that happens? Need a backup option who can take the weight off his shoulders when needed like alvarez did
