Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

He’s been appalling.
Sadly with the injuries he’s having to play.

A very entertaining match for the neutral but a very disappointing result for us.
Once again, we began well, and should have put the game to bed. If that doesn't happen, and it isn't at the moment, we get overrun by opponents with superior athleticism. It is the way it is because we have swathes of players out, and plenty not fully fit.

Think of who is out: Dias, Stones, Ake, Grealish, Doku, Rodri, Bobb and then we have Kev, clearly not fully fit, and Walker not fully fit. These are tough times.

I thought Rico had a magnificent first half, and Nunes and Savinho looked dangerous. Phil's off the ball movement was great, and Haaland looked really up for it. Simpson-Pusey looked composed, and Gvardiol was positionally superb. In the second half, the midfield began to be pulled around by superior runners and the switch ball behind Walker was always on. It is a shame, but time waits for no one, and Walker, KDB, Gundo, and probably Bern are no longer what they were.

We were seriously good in the first half and should have really killed Brighton off, We need to be more clinical on front of goal.

Second half, I don't know were to start really, We seemed happy enough to try and soak up pressure without being an attacking threat when we won back possession.

We had numerous warning signs before the goal and most of which came from Kyle Walker's side, How many times did he want to give Mitoma so much space it was incredible.

Anyway, To end on a positive note, Simpson-Pusey had an absolutely outstanding game, Well done kid.

It's not the end of the world people, we've lost 2 league games, plenty of games left
I do agree although the manner in which we are playing is a bit concerning. In that second half Brighton could have and maybe should have scored 5 goals. Same the other night - we were decent in the first half didn't get the second with at least 2 bad misses and then fell off a cliff - you'd think that it's not just about injuries but about actual fitness too. They were second best to most balls.

I really feel for Pep he puts so much into everything he does he must be knackered. His players are not responding as they should but I really hope to God he stays for 2 more years because any other manager would struggle with the squad they would inherit.

Jesus wept. Some kind of ungrateful, collective madness has descended on this place. We're in the middle of an injury crisis and having a wobble. Have you forgotten what we have achieved? Some of you don't deserve this club. CTID.
I'll admit I've been an absolute melt on here recently but I agree with ya mate. Put it in perspective, otherwise you just make yourself feel worse. Fucking sucks but would rather have won the treble, 100 points, fourmidables, 4 in a row and CWC win and have to pay for it with losing 4 matches in a row.

Some asshole acquaintance Liv supporter has just sent me this, funny but hurts where it's coming from.

It is what it is at the minute.
We look physically and mentally exhausted.
With too many injuries to make a change.
Spurs next so it’ll get worse yet.
Glad I’m at the game against Spurs cos I wouldn’t want to be on here cos the meltdown has well and truly begun.
I doubt the physical exhaustion. Maybe mentally weary but this is where the determined and get going.
Can we get Fernandinho back to give the team a kick maybe….?

I was called this that, and the other when I was criticizing us despite us winning earlier in the season, and, well, the chickens have come home to roost. I said giving Walker a three-year extension, despite Pep benching him in the CL final, was utterly ridiculous, and I have been proven right, for over two years now, at that.

The harsh truth is that Pep is more concerned about his net spend and how it looks upon his legacy than the quality of our current squad. I know that will be controversial, but surely this won’t: he’ll leave the club in far worse shape for the next manager than he found it. I refuse to believe he could watch Cole Palmer in our matches/training, day in and day out, and say,’ yeah, he CAN’T go on loan. He either stays or is sold.’ while having the CLUB’s interest at heart.

As I said before, a downturn was expected, but the squad planning has been awful, and if it solely has to do with the charges against us, then fair enough.

We’ve got a fight on our hands for the top four now.
I agree with the Walker thing. I mean he was still doing freakish things but when your body goes down hill, it goes down hill fast.

I disagree with your assessment of the Pep thing. I don't think he has anywhere near as much control or interest in net spend and the like as you have suggested above. In his position, I am pretty sure he is demanding players in certain positions or identifying players, but he is very good at holding the front for City, and so he should be.

I agree that there has been a lack of forward planning as transitions between different generations of teams are extremely difficult but I do believe there has been a big element of trying to balance the books to comply with the ongoing bizarre financial restrictions. (Nothing to do with pep).

A note aside, and the constant ongoing about Cole Palmer; I don't think he would be developing into the player he is if he didn't leave City. There is no way on earth he would have made 45 appearances last season if he was still with us as he just would simply not have got into the team.
