Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Sometimes you have to read between the lines with Pep.

Listening to his interview I think he is saying a lot of players are playing with injuries and that we only have one half of football in us right now.

He seems confident that the worst is over. Time will tell.

Fans will get behind City against Spurs. We know when we are needed.

I was called this that, and the other when I was criticizing us despite us winning earlier in the season, and, well, the chickens have come home to roost. I said giving Walker a three-year extension, despite Pep benching him in the CL final, was utterly ridiculous, and I have been proven right, for over two years now, at that.

The harsh truth is that Pep is more concerned about his net spend and how it looks upon his legacy than the quality of our current squad. I know that will be controversial, but surely this won’t: he’ll leave the club in far worse shape for the next manager than he found it. I refuse to believe he could watch Cole Palmer in our matches/training, day in and day out, and say,’ yeah, he CAN’T go on loan. He either stays or is sold.’ while having the CLUB’s interest at heart.

As I said before, a downturn was expected, but the squad planning has been awful, and if it solely has to do with the charges against us, then fair enough.

We’ve got a fight on our hands for the top four now.
The decision to sell Palmer for me is unforgivable. The next person that says he wouldn't be getting time needs a good cuff up the back side of their head. His potential was blatantly obvious. One ridiculous decision after another since the treble. No back up for Rodri 2 years running, not even a fucking average player who is a 6 by trade. No back up for Haaland. Wingers with ZERO end product. Walker even being on the squad is ridiculous. Rico playing every game. He's not remotely a back and nowhere near the caliber of midfielder needed to play regularly for us at this time. Bringing back a 34 year old Gundo and expecting what exactly?

On top of everything Pep stays in some totally ineffective set up trying to see out 10 fucking minutes instead of dropping one or two and solidifying the back line. Zero threat going the other way on the counter either as Brighton pressed for an equalizer. An absolute shit show. There's no need to recite Pep's record, we all know it, but currently he's absolutely clueless, simple as...and it's heartbreaking...

We have half the team missing or not fully fit. We played quite well first half, but they were the better team second half. Fair play to Brighton they probably deserved the win overall.

Of course. In over 50 years of supporting City he's given me moments I'd never thought I'd experience. But he's not immortal and he'll leave us at some point, sooner or later. What we need to do is ensure we make the right decisions, with our head rather than our heart.

Don't think anyone would disagree with that. The thing is, anyone who thinks Pep is finished is likely wrong or even silly.

A reminder that Pep was supposed to be finished when we couldn't beat WBA in December 2020 and were midtable at the time. Then we won 21 games in a row.

Can we blame Pep that we didn't lose only 32 PL games in a row and went only 26 consecutive CL games unbeaten?

Seriously, to question Pep is daft.

You know your teams form is in the shitter when you celebrate an international break
Couldn’t wait for it. Looked at the 4 aways and dreaded the outcome, considering our situation.

At least my expectations weren’t raised and probably got what I was thinking, and deserved.

Sounds strange, but we need a few of our players to go on international duty just to get time in their legs. Those without it are a complete waste at the moment.

I'm beginning to think that season might have been the one where some players thought they had nothing more to achieve. Then when we won the PL last season, again making history I wonder if some thought they could coast and still win things.

Perhaps if Arsenal had pipped us, we'd still have the hunger.
Can see your point mate and we've all been there when we hit our 30s..

You grow up a bit and start to think about retirement and winding down..

Clear case of resting on our laurels with senior players who've got one foot in a slipper...

Bring on ake for Walker and put Lewis on at rb or straight swap Walker for akanji at the very least!!

Peps absolutely fucked up with that Tottenham team, doing the exact opposite of what he said he would and ended up with 2 more injuries at the back. 4 away games and not even a draw…
Maybe Ake and Akanji were really borderline otherwise they’d have started?

There is always an alternative. For me we just needed more bodies in midfield and defence. We are 1-0 up, it’s 70 mins in and we still have 8 players at one point in the last quarter of the pitch. We lose the ball and we are in trouble. Why? Why have we got so many players bombing forward in a game that we just need to win. We have 20 minutes to see out. If we have to put 4 players on who will just pack the defence and midfield. I don’t care who they are. Just doing something,

It was coming their goal and we just did nothing about it at all.

Took this around that time. Even committing people forward, we still weren't creating much
