Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

We've signed a lot of players who aren't of the quality we need to compete for the league. Cracks were showing the season we last won the league and we scraped it.

Last seasons performance was no real surprise especially after losing Rodri.

I see absolutely nothing in the signings made last January and this summer to make us title contenders. We look miles away from competing with Arsenal, Liverpool and even Chelsea.

We still have poor wide players, an ageing and injury prone defence, we persist with converting midfielders and centre half into full backs or central attackers into wide players.

And why are we playing a championship goalkeeper when Ederson is on the bench.

Why aren't we in for players like Guehi, Eze or even Isak. We haven't made a major signing since Haaland.

Ultimately, we haven't replaced like for like. I do like a 'rough diamond' to turn into a world class player as we've done in the past. We can't get rid or Ake now, as Ait Nuori has a lot to learn about our process. Although we needed control in the second half, he didn't put Gundy on (I assume he's going tomorrow - or was) and there was no alternative. If Khusanov has a injury then Manu stays.
At the moment the season looks like a long haul, but it's early. I just wish that Pep would manage expectations little better. One small bright spot on the horizon is that the two favorites look sterile.

Nico G was on the bench. Also, if you aren't going to bring Gundogan on when you need to reassert control or are chasing the game (2 likely game states) then don't have him on the bench.

A bizarre day.
Pep was out on the pitch before the players came out. He look lost, really strange seeing him looking totally lost. Never seen Pep do that before.

Something is a miss.

Trafford did well to keep the score down, Stones good.

But this is first time have seen us look in total disarray, the second half was chaos, no tactics, no nothing, very worrying.

But personally the young lad a few rows behind me can do one. To boo the players when they came over at the end was fucking ridiculous. The team did try and worked hard but its not clicking. I will never boo my team
I noticed that as well, was odd.

Just waiting for @BillyShears to pipe up with one of his “everything is great, we’ll give someone a pasting in the next couple of weeks” posts, now.
Just read some utter tosh they posted straight after the match on their 93.20 feed...apparently it's all down to lack of fitness but "sprinkles of very good" apparently. Turning into a bunch of happy clappers who are very dismissive of anybody who dares to think otherwise. They desperately need some folk on there with different views to the main man.

I can live without winning the league another season, all I fear is becoming another Milan/United. You remain at the top for long and see extraordinary wealth and success.
And then you make one mistake - Maybe the wrong manager or the player or the sporting director. But the system is there and the players are there and you still win.
then you do a mistake again in the tranasfer and then suddenly 7 players need replacing.
And then you sign the wrong manager and suddenly you are hiring Amorim and scraping for Europa with 2 billion spend.

We have the evidences in the league itself.
Let wenger stay for long and you have arteta and a billion Euro spend and you are still looking for a title.
Live on your laurels like rags and here they are.
Liverpool took 30 years and an extraordinary Kloop to get it right.

Hope we dont make the same mistakes.

Yep and why knee jerk by our club won’t happen Pep won’t be sacked he will be given this and next season and backed in the market

They are what I call bonus goals
Your Striker should be taking more of the responsibility for creating his own chances and not handed them on a plate
The work rate and hunger is not right from Haaland who should be putting himself around bully defenders
I get your point.
And I agree, he should be bullying defenders.
He’s a shadow of what he was that first season.

But I still think the wingers we have are fucking useless and should be getting more assists. A

As stated earlier we have had a 15 year run at the top table and won the lot. It was absolutely ace.

But it's done. Over. Finito.

Far too many in power at the club - the manager very much being one of them - have got far too comfy and standards have been allowed to slide. We've added 1 class player - Gvardiol - in the last 5 transfer windows. 1!

Can't wait to see the set of criteria for acquiring a ticket next season - they'll be begging people to come back and fill that North Stand having spent the past few years treating the match going fanbase like shite. Remember all that support from the club we got for the conditions and shitshow for fans in Istanbul? No me neither.

We don't know who the no1 Goalkeeper is - this greatly affects how we actually play but we've blundered into the season with 4 of them yet are still apparently buying another one, who also can't play with the ball at his feet.

At full-back we've got 2 blokes from Wolves - one never will be good enough, the other already looks out of his depth.

Centre halves - we've 23 of them but who is the best pairing? Pep doesn't seem to have a clue on that. Stones was on his way out last month - now he's an automatic starter. Dias has dropped off a cliff again now he's dating. Khusanov disappeared for 2 months and has now reappeared.

Midfield wise Rodri stands alone by a mile. The rest are either too old, too flaky or not anywhere the standards we had. Gonzalez seems to always be the scapegoat yet Bernardo is still picked despite his legs looking like they've gone. Reijnders disappears when the going gets tough. He's clearly located that hole Alfie Haaland used to hide in for 90 mins.

Our wingers are tripe. Not a single one could hold a candle to Sane, Sterling or Mahrez. Doku's had 2 seasons - that's 1 too many already. And we turned down £63m for the other duffer who contributed 1 goal and can't cross a road. Palmer was sold - Oscar Bobb was retained......that frankly doesn't look like the correct call and that's being kind.

Up top Haaland must shake his head at those providing service. Marmoush has shown flashes
of brilliance. He's also shown flashes of complete unawareness of what's around him on the pitch & fluffed his big moment at Wembley, for which I doubt I'll ever forgive him for.

Meanwhile Pep looks on and continually exclaims how happy he is with his squad. If you wanted a guide to self-managed decline, since summer 2023 we've written the book on it.

100% agree.

It's a strange one with Haaland. If we are not playing well, we are playing with a man down. But you can't argue with his goal record. Must be hard to manage tbh. We are so shit though it's so painful. The thing is Brighton wasn't even playing well.

Sad times and something needs to change quick.
Completely agree.

When he scores everything else is forgotten. He has an incredible record and it has helped us to a lot of trophies. But you’re bang on. He adds absolutely nothing else to the team. He isn’t a leader, I don’t think his hold up play is good at all. He doesn’t press well enough and doesn’t challenge for long balls unless it’s massively in his favour. We could undoubtedly play to his strengths more but Pep doesn’t want to do that for whatever reason.

100% agree

No - here is the problem.

The greatest coach in our history, and possibly the greatest of all time, doesn't seem to have a fucking clue any more and can't get his players to perform to the required level.

Does not Mather what coach you have with the problems we have at the moment

We have bought 2 young defenders that hardly has playd, (for the future maybe) we bought Ait-Nouri who I’m not to impressed with bad passing and bad defending today, but it’s early to cut him of yet we are playing Lewis as a right defender who needs to be in midfield, we bought Nunes for what? Hardly to play right defender.

We bought Nico Gonzales, a squad player (back up for Rodri) Doku,Savinho, not goal scoring wingers from what I’ve seen so far we bought Marmoush and using him as a winger. Cherki not sure how we are going to use him is he supposed to be new KDB in the starting 11? The young Argentinian Etchverry where is he supposed to play? Winger? Striker? AM?

To be honest for what I’ve seen so far the only players I can se making the starting 11 better is Reijnders,Kuzhanov and Ait-Nuri even if he was sloppy today at least he is a proper left defender.

We have to many dead weight players who is not playing that takes up a seat in the dressingroom.

The upcuming transfer windows will be crucial if we are going to stay as a topp club it’s not easy we have been spoiled with players lika Konpany,Walker.Yaya, David Silva, Aguéro KDB, zabaleta, sane,Mharez it easy to replace.

“Doesn’t deludedly defend city to the end so he’s a rag” fuck off mate. On the way home from Brighton as we speak. Now answer my question
Fuck your question. You couldn’t name a manager you want to replace arguably the greatest manager to manage in this country with.
