Brighton & Hove Albion (A) | Post Match Thread

Who were they? Genuine question. A nasty thought recently crossed my mind...are we signing B class instead of A class because A class players don't want to run the risk of our PL charges? Hoping you guys can debunk that theory.
Was thinking similar but along the lines that the players aren’t putting the effort in cos it could be for naught.

We would. He was very good in the first half today with his press, gaining possession and his goal . He missed a great chance and could have scored more but he certainly wasn't our worst today. An occasional long ball to him from Reijnders et al., if that were allowed by Pep, would also bring him into play more and cause the opposition lots of problems .
You hit the nail on the head with ‘if allowed by Pep’! For me he is still the best striker in the world, but we need to play to his strengths

How do mean blunting? You mean preventing them from showing or reaching their full potential. Stifling them ? If that's so then I can concur with you . For example he certainly stifled Grealish although amazingly got one very good season out of him.
Not maximizing their potential. Getting worse under him. I don't believe for a second we have been as atrocious on the transfer market as some would say. It's the first time for a decade that I look at our squad and look at our style of play and think we are not getting the most out of them.

When did the false 9 fail Pep
Other teams don't know how to defend it because they don't have anybody to mark and players like Foden and Silva who would stand between the lines and find little pockets of space and in on goal
Exactly this love him to bits and yes he scores again today but after scoring was never a threat
Erling would be worth 2 A class players and without him we’d be back to having a system where all 11 players can exploit their capabilities rather than be “coached” to do something that doesn’t come naturally. And what I find strange we have Erling up front as the typical target CF but never play him into the game except once after 10 mins today he did what he does best but granted fucked his shot up.

As stated earlier we have had a 15 year run at the top table and won the lot. It was absolutely ace.

But it's done. Over. Finito.

Far too many in power at the club - the manager very much being one of them - have got far too comfy and standards have been allowed to slide. We've added 1 class player - Gvardiol - in the last 5 transfer windows. 1!

Can't wait to see the set of criteria for acquiring a ticket next season - they'll be begging people to come back and fill that North Stand having spent the past few years treating the match going fanbase like shite. Remember all that support from the club we got for the conditions and shitshow for fans in Istanbul? No me neither.

We don't know who the no1 Goalkeeper is - this greatly affects how we actually play but we've blundered into the season with 4 of them yet are still apparently buying another one, who also can't play with the ball at his feet.

At full-back we've got 2 blokes from Wolves - one never will be good enough, the other already looks out of his depth.

Centre halves - we've 23 of them but who is the best pairing? Pep doesn't seem to have a clue on that. Stones was on his way out last month - now he's an automatic starter. Dias has dropped off a cliff again now he's dating. Khusanov disappeared for 2 months and has now reappeared.

Midfield wise Rodri stands alone by a mile. The rest are either too old, too flaky or not anywhere the standards we had. Gonzalez seems to always be the scapegoat yet Bernardo is still picked despite his legs looking like they've gone. Reijnders disappears when the going gets tough. He's clearly located that hole Alfie Haaland used to hide in for 90 mins.

Our wingers are tripe. Not a single one could hold a candle to Sane, Sterling or Mahrez. Doku's had 2 seasons - that's 1 too many already. And we turned down £63m for the other duffer who contributed 1 goal and can't cross a road. Palmer was sold - Oscar Bobb was retained......that frankly doesn't look like the correct call and that's being kind.

Up top Haaland must shake his head at those providing service. Marmoush has shown flashes
of brilliance. He's also shown flashes of complete unawareness of what's around him on the pitch & fluffed his big moment at Wembley, for which I doubt I'll ever forgive him for.

Meanwhile Pep looks on and continually exclaims how happy he is with his squad. If you wanted a guide to self-managed decline, since summer 2023 we've written the book on it.
Can't argue with that. Nico Gonzalez had won the most ground duels in the Prem coming into the weekend yet he gets dropped and Bernardo who was really poor when he came on against Spurs get the nod in his place. These players are not stupid. No one can tell me they aren't questioning Pep heavily at this point. Pep wanted KDB gone because he was letting Pep know what he thought of what was going on. Very few could disagree with Pep and survive it. Not even DeBruyne...

The most worrying thing is Brighton arent a particularly good side. When we pressed them they gave it away and the majority of their attacking pace was booting the ball out of play as well.

In terms of attacking threat and midfield opposition we won't face many as weak as we did today in my opinion. They're a bottom half side based on their summer transfers. And we couldn't beat them in a game that was pretty easy for us. Not only that, they played us off the park and the players didn't have an answer and neither did the manager. It's wait for the inevitable then throw Doku on game after game.

Pep is looking more and more like Southgate! He is the greatest manager we probably will ever have but he is simply miles off it at the moment. He needs to be banging on Viana's door saying he needs 4 players in through the door tomorrow to fix things!
