You’ve proven his point.Again Arsenal did put in a fruitless bid with Luis Suarez

They still activated it and our rivals could cause us mischief with that. Saying that Liverpool got a highly motivated player that nearly won the league that season. You’ve proven his point.
A release clause means the club cant reject the offer. The player still can. They still activated it.

I fully grasped the concept hence I agreed with mattcity5's postA release clause means the club cant reject the offer. The player still can.
How have you not grasped this yet?
£50m isn't much as far as transfer fees go these days especially for our rivals.

No difference between that our any of our Premier League rivals. Saying that if it happens to be a rival european club who could afford it then it would be more likely. It isn't, but you think Haaland would have agreed to go to Bournemouth if they'd offered it? You think they'd have been able to afford his wages as well?
For the very top players there are very few clubs who can afford them or they'd move to. That's partly why the fee sometimes isn't that high (as per Haaland). Dortmund wanted to keep him happy, so had to give him a sane release clause as they knew he'd leave at some point. They could have asked him to have a release clause of more ,eg £100m, but I'm guessing he wouldn't have signed the contract and he'd have left them sooner.
I agreed for the second part. That was the point I was making about the whole Release Clause concept and the selling clubs still having a say.Was that agreeing? I didn't read it that way, fair enough.

Liverpool were denying the clause existed for Suarez. It was a strange situation and not representative of a normal release clause. They still activated it and our rivals could cause us mischief with that. Saying that Liverpool got a highly motivated player that nearly won the league that season.
gvardiol did not have a rc last summer. he would have one this summer and it would be cca 115/120m euros. they only sold him cause he requested the transfer and was firm but professional about it.Liverpool did. Villa took their time with Jack Grealish. Newcastle United's owners were not completely stupid when they renewed Bruno Guimarares' contract. Josko Gvardiol's tranfer didn't instantaneously happen either.
does he do that every summer? pick a transfer target thread and troll the crap out of everyone? There really isn’t.
If we want him, we pay the release clause. If we don’t, we won’t.
I’m stopping here, because it’s obvious to everybody but you.
I am not on about the RC on Gvardiol just the transfer didn't go quite as smoothlygvardiol did not have a rc last summer. he would have one this summer and it would be cca 115/120m euros. they only sold him cause he requested the transfer and was firm but professional about it.
i thought the purpose of release clauses was to allow players to move without the club letting them go.
lol of course it didn’t, leipzig wanted 100m euros, city wanted to pay less. a thousand years later city went over his head, 10m less agreed, gvardiol moved and not surprisingly, eberl moved soon after. still, there was no rc for last summer. ;)I am not on about the RC on Gvardiol just the transfer didn't go quite as smoothly
It will be sorted by the end of June, otherwise he won't be coming here.I want this wrapped up in the next 2 weeks - we need this guy and today showed that we need a midfield refresh, what a way to start the window! As the geordies say, howay man!
