Bruno Guimaraes

Yeah, because we’re forever having players sent off.
Pep responded well to criticism of City’s ‘Tackles Won’ stats a season or few back, when he said that you don’t need to tackle half so much if you have the ball for 75% of the time. So the risk of red cards for bad tackles is reduced.

Whether either could respond though to the relentless shithousery and provocation they’d get as City midfielders with enough discipline to stay on the pitch is another matter. Rodri’s the Professor of CDM-enomics - as the Alternative Commentary guy used to say - and even he lost his shit with Morgan Gibbs-White in One of this season’s defining moments.

You’re signing the person, just as much as the footballer. The Yorkshire Pirlo (ahem) was a failure of due diligence in at least one of those aspects, but there are plenty more hits than misses.

We need to find a way to build the team around Rodri, but ensure he plays fewer minutes, so gets cover by someone good enough to play the role with not a lot of drop-off but realistic enough to not want to be top dog. Not a lot of Silky Ilkays around; neither of these two seem to fit the bill.

According to 90min, when Guimaraes signed for Newcastle, a £100 million release clause was put in place. However, there is a ‘verbal agreement’ between Guimaraes and the club for the player to be able to talk to Champions League clubs to sign him for lower than that £100 million figure.

If said Champions League clubs offer at least £80 million, then Newcastle will consider selling. The club will at least engage with the potential suitor.

thas a new one hmm.

Phillips is a funny one with hindsight.

All Pep wants is players that have a decent brain and the propensity to learn, coupled with a good work ethic and attitude. The players that see the whole picture.

Guimares and or Paqueta might be the ones, but I don’t know how good their footballing brains are.

If in Jan it was Phillips and 50 for Bruno it might still be in play but for 60 and Phillips.

That being there means there has been some talk. Has been said Pep wants him and Paq so he wouldn’t even be an alternative if the betting allegations still are in play.

In 2022.
Enzo - 120m
Mudryk - 70m
Antony £82m
Wesley Fofana £70m
Darwin Nunez £64m
Casemiro £60m
Marc Cucurella £56m

Txiki then signed Haaland for 51m.

Another mistake from Txiki.
Yeah we could have signed Isak instead who would have suited us better. He would have had Rudgier on toast.

He cost 63m, 20% more than Haaland so I'd expect him to deliver 20% extra and your right, could have been the difference mate.

Yeah cost more to buy but salary is lower so he would be much cheaper in the long run. I think the signings over last 24 months have been terrible. The reason we are challenging is because we have Rodri, KDB, Stones and Foden. They are the game winners.

We have spunked some serious cash on players who have stalled the progress of our academy players Nunes and Kellogs Kelvin.

Gvardiol and Doku will become vert good. Hpwever it is puzzling that Txiki and Pep who love midfielders have failed badly with these purchases.

He’d be perfect for us. Can play as an 8 or a 6, which is exactly what we need - someone to play as a 6 when Rodri is rested but also someone who will still start most games even when Rodri is playing. The Gundo replacement, essentially.

Then Paqueta is the Bernardo replacement.

Wonder who brought these guys in?

To be fair, after his excellent displays in the Euro's, I was as excited as anyone about the purchase of Philips.

Even up to last summer I held out hope he'd come good, but Rodri's interview changed all that, & from then I knew it was over for him at City.

I've never rated panic buy Nunes from his Sporting & Wolves days, so his unimpressive season so far doesn't surprise me. However, I've been wrong about players before, but alas I fear not with Matheus.

Being fair to Txiki & Pep regarding transfers, we've got far more right than wrong, & taking Philips & Nunes into consideration I've a feeling/hope that our transfer acquisition team are desperate to put right our recent errors.

We had the best years of Sterling, Sané, Jesus, Zinchenko & Laporte, & we either got our money back or made a profit on all bar Laporte.

Gundog & Mahrez served City well, & albeit we didn't want to lose Riyad, we got his best years too & a modest return on our investment for a 32 year old.

Philips & Nunes apart, we've not done too badly with transfers & we'll hopefully rectify those errors this summer.

Yeah he has made excellent purchases over the years but we have really wasted money on PL players like Nunes, Kalvin and to a lesser degree Grealish.

Had we spent that money on some bundesliga or la liga players we would have most liekly got something better at half the cost.

We should foster englush talent and sign the best from the other leagues. We have got ripped off royally by PL clubs. Had we gon for Paqueta, Isak and Bruno from France and Spain we would all be smiles now. The talent was evident for all those before we went for other targets.

What do you reckon we would have won if we had signed those players?

How many foreign players do you think we can have at once? Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

As for English talent, does that include Sterling, Philips, Cole, Stones, Foden, Grealish, Walker, Lavia, McAtee, Trafford, Lewis, Doyle x 2, Harwood-Bellis etc, etc, etc...

Probably not... ;-)

What about Walker? Stones? Sterling?
