While maybe not a ‘superstar’, I certainly consider Gvardiol to be in the elite category, but I understand your point.

I’ve often felt that there is no real need for the Director of Football to be necessarily based in England, certainly permanently; the whole football industry there is so introspective that there’s always a danger of being caught up in the hype. Not saying that’s what happened, but I’m hoping that we continue to buy prudently from wherever and buy gems that actually fit the setting.

Yeah Gvardiol was in the same bracket as KDB for me when we signed him. Elite talent in one of the best leagues.

I rather develop great english players or sign them at a young age.

Not Bruno, but we still need to buy Association trained players for a full squad that we are likely to need.
We've had some good buys in the EPL
Walker, Stones,Sterling and Ake have all been crucial members of Peps squads and good buys.

we can still get those from bundesliga nmecha, frimpong, gnabry etc. Or we just sign Kasper from Celtic as back up keeper.
 
He's class, his whole team were garbage against us. That's not a fair reflection on his ability.

We're not getting him now though, that chance was last summer, he'll be another year older, his price won't have gone down since and Newcastle should have money to spend this summer with or without champions league football as the window where they went huge, spending close to £200m and brought in isak, Gordon, botman etc will be erased from the rolling 3 year PSR figures this summer meaning they shouldn't need to sell their big names unless they're pushing to leave.

Agreed. Very solid player, but let’s not help out a team struggling with FFP by giving them £90mil+ to reinvest. Same with Brighton and Baleba - just get Camara from Monaco for half the price.
 
He’s never played well against us as I recall. Not sure he’s great at anything but clearly a steady player. Too expensive for steady though.
