Bundesliga review part 2. the new one :)

So my plan’s finally coming into action. Friday September 18th-Sunday 27th


Friday Bochum v Fortuna Dusseldorf

Saturday: Koln v Monchengladbach

Sunday: Duisburg v FSV Frankfurt (and possibly Dortmund v Leverkusen)

Tuesday: Kaiserslautern v Nurnberg

Wednesday: Leverkusen v Mainz

Friday: Koln v Ingolstadt

Saturday: Hamburg c Schalke


Possibly Kassel on the Monday, and I’m flirting with the idea of the long train journey to Red Bull Leipzig on the Thursday (I know they’re a controversial subject, but in the interest of fair play, I think I should form an opinion based on my own experience)


Anyway, my main question is about Kaiserslautern, as I’m familiar with their history, but clueless about the city itself.

Is it worth 1 or 2 nights, or should I just book a day return from Dusseldorf.

Theres a fair bit of time spent on trains looking at that! I guess we find out on Thursday whether I'll be seeing you at a couple. If we were to get BMGB away on the first matchday there would be a pretty good chance I'd be going to Bochum Koln and Duisburg too, but we'll have to wait and see what UEFA throws at us. Presumably Schalke or Dortmund would be at home on the Thursday too?

1 night in Kaiserslautern is more than enough, unless you're intending to get out of the city to the surrounding areas. I don't think I'm being too harsh if I was to say theres not a lot to see in the city itself. The B&B Hotel, whilst basic is in a really good location for both the stadium & hauptbahnhof.

Allow plenty of time to get to the stadium, firstly to get up the hill, but also to use the big beer hall under the smallest of the four stands (north). We stood in the Westtribune where the Kaiserslautern ultras are but you are allowed to wander through the other stand. Sadly the people I spoke to did not know of Uwe Rösler despite the fact he was there for a year after he left City. They had forgotten that they had seen a God play. Unbelievable!

Its difficult to get behind a team known as the red devils, and I think in the past you've said you travel with an Everton fan, so he might struggle with them singing YNWA. Other than that - you'll have a great time.

Yes it's one of those strange things that Mark ( my Everton mate) can't understand). Why does virtually every German team love this song?

We're meeting before the game at Goodison on Sunday, and then flying to Dusseldorf in a few weeks. Thanks to Rhineland for sorting the Koln tickets.

What I don't understand (and I guess you're in the same boat) is that, in theory, City, or Monchengladbach, could be drawn, to play away in Russia, or beyond, on Wednesday Sep 16th

The fact that City (at home to West Ham< 5>30 kick off) and Monchengladbach (away to Koln) have already been scheduled, seems to suggest that UEFA have got certain bases covered

Perhaps, I'm being roo cynical

I would say as far as UEFA and the Premier League are concerned, Wednesday to Saturday is adequate time to recover and prepare. Not sure if that would change if we end up getting Astana which is over 6 hours away on a plane, and in reality is in Central Asia. I was surprised the premier league (or Sky) scheduled the West Ham game for the Saturday anyway because at the time West Ham were still in the Europa League and were expected to go through, so they would have had to rearrange it. West Hams ineptitude means they got lucky.

Well not every German team loves YNWA! The cool ones don´t sing it...;) *Frankfurtcoughcough*

I could understand Gladbach sing it as they have a strong connection to Liverpool, but other than that I doubt fans sing it as a reference to Liverpool, but rather because it is a great song for football (if you take off the scouse hate glasses). Pool do have some great songs to be fair...Fields of Anfield Road must be one of my favourite fan chants ever, but I guess I am alone with that opinion on here. ;)

Anyway...matchday is here, first proper home game of the season and I am well excited considering our performance against Wolfsburg. But as usual I have this horrible bad feeling in the back of my mind, that we will deliver a horrible performance, because everyone expects us to do fine.

But I am pretty sure we could lead the table with 40 points before Bayern on the last matchday and I would still somehow expect us to fuck up. :(

Anyway....drink Aeppler and support your local team!
