I've decided to go on another trip before the end of the season after all.

I'd been keeping an eye on a few possibilities - one of which by coincidence included seeing Frankfurt v Hoffenheim, but I realised that with my record in that match I wouldn't have been welcome :).

Instead I'm going to Augsburg against Hannover, and the following day I'll be watching two traditionsverein giants - Ingolstadt v RB Leipzig.

A couple of questions -

1) Can I use a Bavaria Ticket on the trains firstly from Munich Airport to Augsburg, then Augsburg to Ingolstadt, and then Ingolstadt to Munich Airport? I don't know where the border of Bavaria and Franconia are....

2) I'll be needing to book a hotel somewhere. I believe both are fairly quiet, but is Augsburg a better city than Ingolstadt, or vice versa? Would it be worth traveling to Regensburg and staying there instead?

Any advice much appreciated

Vielen Dank!
Good to see you've saw the light! Well probably already be promoted by the Leipzig game, but I think the tickets are already nearly sold out. Have fun!

Was nice to hear the fans at last night's semi-final singing the Yaya/Kolo song. I believe they changed the 'Toure' part to 'Deutscher Sportclub'.
We've left a lasting impresiion on German football!

Schalke fans sick of another dreadful performance of their team during second half of the away match in Mainz, singing:
"We are the fans, standing at the beer stalls, if you lose, you are playing worse than Nürnberg, Schalke my addiction."

Thank god you decided against the Frankfurt - Hoffenheim fixture! You would somehow managed to get us relegated!!

Just kidding, you are obviously always more than welcome! :)

regarding your questions:

1. I just checked the terms and conditions of the Bavaria ticket and it seems like you get to travel around all of Bavaria with that ticket. That includes Franconia as they are part of Bavaria, even though you better don´t tell them that to the face...

But I am not 100% why you brought up Franconia, as it is just the Northern part of Bavaria and Ingolstadt/Augsburg are in the southeast/southwest, so you wouldn't get there anyway. Unless I miss something...;)

2. In terms of staying overnight you cant really go wrong with any of the mentioned cities, but I would recommend Regensburg. Its a really really beautiful place. A bit like Nürnberg, which you know already. Regensburg got 3 universities, and you know what that means in terms of nightlife. :)

Just keep in mind that the distance between Augsburg and Ingolstadt is a good 100 km and from Ingolstadt its another 100 km to Regensburg, so you will spend some quality time on the train.

Cheers mate. I couldn't find a map showing if Augsburg & Ingolstadt were in Bavaria, but thanks for confirming.

The distances look a lot closer on the map, so I've just checked that the train would take 2 hours from Augsburg to Regensburg. Although Regensburg sounds and looks nice, I'd be wasting precious time with Bavarian beer so I'll probably just stick with Augsburg or Ingolstadt - whichever is cheaper.

Don;t Schalke and Nurnberg have some kind of friendship, totally alien to the English?

I'm only asking because I've been to both grounds and there seems to be some kind of peculiar bond between the two clubs.

yes, there is a friendship between the fans since the 1980s, which is respected by both clubs, which means e.g. that Nürnberg fans can wave their flags on the Schalke pitch before the match or the clubs produce half and half scarves as merchandise.

In case of the chant. The original Lyrics are "You are more than a club" and they turned it into "You are playing worse that THE CLUB" with "THE CLUB" is the nickname for 1.FC Nürnberg in germany.

You can see it on the terraces at the Veltins, if you look closely there's a large flag that has the Nuremberg badge on it.

BTW I'd recommend staying in Ingolstadt, as I would!, there seems to be a fairly large old town which looks quite nice. It's only 45 minutes back to Munich and it's also on the side of the City where the Airport is located.

Of course! When I received my Membership card the club asked me to send them some pictures and they posted it on their official facebook page, so in the end I got about 700 likes and loads of comments like "Manchester City! and Oasis!"

Darmstadt with an important win yesterday against Kaiserslautern. Battle for promotion is really interesting in the second division.

Meanwhile Frankfurt is only 6 points away from the relegation zone with 3 matches to go. We got tremendous luck with injuries as well....shit season really.

Just hope Hamburg fuck it up again today as well. Can't see us getting any points in the last couple of matches.

And I seriously hope Schalke get their shit together...they still got to play all teams in the relegation zone and well be a deciding factor in who gets down.

Whats the feeling in Germany - will he be sacked? That performance in the Bernabeu was a brief moment of excellence in an otherwise thoroughly dismal season.

Hamburg doing their bit at the moment. Stuttgart are in trouble, Hannover too the way they are playing. If Hamburg hold on then next Fridays game home to Freiburg is huge!

Would still prefer Paderborn to go down.

Ingolstadt can effectively confirm promotion and step closer to the 2. Buli title tomorrow. Interesting battle between Kaiserslautern, Darmstadt, and Karlsruhe (who ballsed up a good opportunity today) for the 2nd and 3rd spots.

1860 in an enormous amount of trouble at the bottom of that league. Fighting it out with St Pauli, Aalen and Aue, but its in St Paulis hands at the minute.

Looks like there will be a couple more NRW teams in 2. Buli next season with Bielefeld and Duisburg sitting in the automatic spots. Kiel in 3rd.

Plenty still to play for in every division

A win tomorrow confirms at-least a playoff spot! Fingers crossed, then only one further point is needed for automatic promotion. We should probably be winning the title from this situation now though.

If we do win the league, how many seasons will that be where unfancied teams have gone up? There's been Fuerth (with a big win today btw), Paderborn, Braunschweig and potentially ( ;) ) Schanzer.

Elkin Soto from Mainz smashed his complete knee today. Don´t think, he will ever play football again. Poor guy.

Only for people with a very strong stomach.Otherwise don´t watch it:

That's a horrific injury, which could easily end his career. Total dislocation of the knee causing anterior and medial ligaments and the meniscus to detatch.

His contract was due up in the summer and he was intending to go back to Columbia to finish his career. Because of his injury, Mainz immediately offered him a 3 year contract whilst he tries to recover. That's a very classy thing to do in my opinion.

I didn't know that! Very nice thing for Mainz to do! Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery, it seems only yesterday he scored past Neuer in that great game in December.

Now its confirmed....we are not going down, our new jerseys look awesome, 2 of our most important players will be out for ages and miss the start of the new season, lots of trouble behind the scenes with our coach.

The future is bright....*cough*

Relegation battle is incredible intense with Stuttgart managing to win against Mainz, while Hannover, Hamburg and Freiburg only manage to get one point each.

Stuttgart - Hamburg next weekend and Stuttgart - Paderborn, Freiburg - Hannover the week after will be murder.

I somehow have a feeling that Hannover will go down now.

Just had a look at your shirt for next season - you're going to look like referee's in all black!

I see Bayern are back to all red and now Wolfsburg will be predominantly in white now. Do supporters not get a bit angry about those fundamental changes? You only need to have a look in the main forum to see how annoyed City fans are and thats just over the shorts and whether they are blue or white.

Dont know whats going on at Schalke, Ruhr. You seem to be playing like Spurs are, and doing everything you can to avoid the Europa League. I think they may be overtaken by at least one of Dortmund and/or Bremen. You've got easier games on paper but both will be fighting for survival.

The relegation battle is so close and the fixtures mean some teams have to play each other so there is lots of pressure with 2 to play.

13 Hertha 32 9 7 16 35 50 -15 34
14 Hamburg 32 8 8 16 22 48 -26 32
15 Freiburg 32 6 13 13 33 44 -11 31
16 Hannover 32 7 10 15 36 54 -18 31
17 Paderborn 32 7 10 15 30 62 -32 31
18 Stuttgart 32 7 9 16 38 58 -20 30

Anyone want to stick their neck out and say now who will go down now?

This is more interesting than the Premier League

I think Stuttgart will beat Hamburg next week, but Freiburg. Hannover and Paderborn will all lose. Hertha will draw with Frankfurt.
However on the last day, Hamburg will beat a disinterested Schalke, and Hannover will beat Freiburg. I’ve also got a sneaking suspicion that Stuttgart will win at Paderborn.

I'll plump for Paderborn and Freiburg automatic, and Hannover winning the play off
