the german word is "Schachtscheisser". People, who shit in shafts. Well, it was the club of a notorious uranium mining company in east germany.

They even have it on their scarves

We haven't had this much posts in this thread since the whole Leipzig debacle!

Do any of you have anymore information on the accident in the Ingolstadt fan block at the Betzenberg yesterday? We took about 2200 fans altogether but someone fell and lacerated their head.

I lived in Aue for a few months when I was a schoolteacher in the Erzgebirge. Weird people.

Didnt find any information about the Ingolstadt fan Alex.

Most likely he was drunk and fell from the fence or something, hope he is fine.

Just to share some background on the football miracle of Darmstadt, so people can understand why we refer to it as miracle:

Darmstadt played in the 3rd division in 2012/2013 and officially got relegated down to the 4th division as they had a really low budget team and as they only spend their own money on the team, unlike some other clubs who spent obscene amount of money on their teams (taking up loans/credits etc).

Offenbach (local Derby of Darmstadt and Frankfurt) went bust and so they went down to the 4th division and the Lilies could stay in the 3rd divison.

Now in the season 2013/2014 they still had a team of nameless players and rejects of other clubs. However they somehow played a great season and managed to reach the promotion playoffs against Bielefeld. Damstadt lost their first match at home 1-3 and it looked completely hopeless for them.

In the second leg at Bielefeld they managed to beat Arminia 4-2 in the last seconds of overtime which was just enough to secure the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Great video here:

And now in 2014 and 2015 they are basically still playing with the same team and managed the direct promotion to division 1. :)

Those kind of stories restore my faith that there might be a football god somewhere out there.

Their grounds capacity is only 16000 and everything is completely old school. Will be fun to see how the Bayern players react when they realise that they will change here:

At least Pep got a nice area for his advanced tactic shenanigans.

Bet you didnt host any candle lit suppers there

I saw Ingolstadt draw 1-1 at St Pauli on the opening day, which if memory serves correctly was in July. It was scorching and the stewards had to hose the crowds at half time. We were sat behind the Ingolstadt fans, who judging by their numbers, probably all knew each other.
I presume it’s fairly close to Munich because my train went through Ingolstadt on the way to our Champions League game last September.
I also saw Darmstadt draw 1-1 at Bochum on a Friday night in October, Bochum equalizing from a last second set piece.
I would recommend Bochum to any City fan visiting the Ruhr region. There’s a huge drinking area called the Bermuda Triangle, which is as good, if not better than the more fashionable watering holes.

It’s been an entertaining season, also witnessing games at Mainz, Dusseldorf, Schalke, and Cologne.

Anyway, sod it. I’ve booked flights for Hamburg, and will do the typical English thing of looking for the touts outside Stellingen metro station.
I will then catch a train to Kiel and do the typical English thing of standing outside their stadium wearing a City scarf as a diversionary tactic. Eventually this will lead to a curious supporter (who knows somebody with a spare ticket) asking where I’m from.

Using this tactic, I ended up in the Finland end, when they played Germany in Hamburg in 2009. It also explains how I ended up in the Monchengladbach end in the Allianz Arena on the opening day of last season.

As an aside, the referee at the Germany-Finland game was Martin Atkinson. It was only a couple of weeks after our infamous 4-3 defeat at the Swamp, and you should have seen his face at Hamburg airport when I deliberately sat next to him wearing a City shirt.

Fingers crossed you get sorted.

I looked at going to the 1860 home game myself but just going to watch it on a stream instead. I can just about afford the trip, but I can't afford 2 days off work - I'll need those later in the year to get to Köln, Bremen, Wolfsburg, Hannover, Darmstadt, and maybe Karlsruher.

Good luck.

Cheers Mate!

I saw City play a pre-season friendly in Wolfsburg, on the same say as Super Saturday at the London Olympics.
It’s a fairly unremarkable city, not dissimilar to Leverkusen. The town centre was like Stockport’s Merseyway Precinct circa 1980. The Volkswagen car plant is directly behind the hauptbahnhof

Bremen is a bit like Craven Cottage or the City Ground, with the River Weser running alongside the stadium. The city itself is quite pretty and old fashioned, in a narrow streets and cobbled stone sort of way.

I travelled with the Hamburg fans to Hannover for a night match early 2006. Tarnat was playing for Hannover and Van Buyten for Hamburg.
Incidentally, Hannovers’ stadium is within walking distance of the hauptbahnhof, with plenty of watering holes en toute. There’s a top pub called the Waterloo opposite the ground. Tickets are a doddle because it’s a huge stadium that doesn’t normally sell out/

Koln took me by surprise because, the ground feels more traditionally English, than many English grounds

I’m also looking forward to doing Darmstadt next season, and possibly Karlsruher, although as previously discussed I want Hamburg to stay up.

I also need to do Ingolstadt, Hoffenheim, and Augsburg, to complete the set.

Looking forward to getting to Koln and Bremen in particular. Been through Wolfsburg on the train and I've been told that there isn't much there.

Augsburg and Ingolstadt are good cities, with narrow winding streets and I'd say they are both worth a trip. Both are within easy reach of Munich if we draw Bayern again in the Champions League, and Augsburg in the Europa might be an added bonus. Can't really advise you too much for Hoffenheim though, as I was only able to do that with Bembeltowns help. From the inside of the stadium, Hoffenheim and Augsburg are almost identical (substituting Red with Blue seats), but Hoffenheim looks far better from the outside.

Personally, I'm hoping for Wolfsburg in the Champions League.

Dont want to sound like an ass, but the town is called Karlsruhe (Karl's Rest).

You might have come across Karlsruher SC, and the added "r" just is added because in this case it means Sport Club from Karlsruhe.

But the town itself is "just" Karlsruhe without the "r". :) Sorry, had to do it as I have seen it now multiple times from people on here.

Feel free to correct me when I cant figure out how to correctly use to/too the next time. ;)

Fair enough. A bit like Hamburger SV I suppose, and the less well known Chemnitzer (they play in sky blue and Chemnitz is twinned with Manchester).

Is there any difference in the pronunciation between Karlsruhe and Karlsruher?

Yep, exactly the same as with Hamburger SV and Chemnitzer FC. :)

From a pronounciation point of view there is not really any difference other than the audible "r".

Darmstadt celebrating the promotion as if it is their last day on earth...players, staff and managers gave some hilarious interviews.

"Mr. Schuster (their coach), did you sleep last night?" "Yes I did" "How many hours?" "I cant remember I was too drunk to remember anything!"

To be honest Bembletown, there’s too many English people, including two of my friends, who also get it wrong.
