Welcome to Bluemoon Bembeltown, interesting post.

think your right Ruhr, Union do seem not to be part of the modern football master-plan! Do you know if it is true they refused a large sponsorship deal due to the sponsor having a link to the Stasi in the past?

I was lucky enough to go to the Berlin Derby at the Olympiastadion last season. Almost 75,000 for a 2.Bundesliga game is quite impressive. A 2-1 win for Union was completely unexpected but made for a fantastic atmosphere. I believe the two games last season were the first time Hertha and Union had meet in a competitive game in history. Unfortunately I was sat with the Hertha fans but couldn't help jumping up (as did many others around the ground) when Union scored their second.

I was recently told that at the Union V Karlsruher SC game in October a large number of Hertha fans joined the Karlsruher fans in the away section. Do a lot of the larger teams fans adopt a Smaller team and is it common for fans of other clubs to turn up at games like this?

yes, about ten million euro it was.

I watched that derby home match of Union

yes there is a tradition of fan-friendships in germany. The oldest is Schalke and Nürnberg. Here you see them celebrating it at their last encounter

Hertha and Karlsruhe is also an old one . Hamburger SV and Hannover 96 is a famous one, too. Werder Bremen and RW Essen, Bayer Leverkusen and Kickers Offenbach come to my mind

I am not that familiar with Union Berlin, but I can very well imagine that they refused a sponsor deal due to this Stasi thingy going on. During the times of the Berlin Wall Union Berlin was none of the official Stasi clubs like for example BFC Dynamo Berlin. So they used to be the "rebel´s choice" and still carry that image until today.

Regarding the Hertha fans joining Karlsruhe...

Well yeah over the years there developed "friendships" between certain clubs. Some of them are accepted by the whole fanbase like for example Schalke and Nürnberg which is a very old friendship.

This is a video of a choreographie that the Schalke fans did when Nürnberg was visiting them.

In addition to that you have a lot of friendships between the Ultra groups, those might however not be carried by the whole fanscene.

For example Schikeria München has connections to Ultras Sankt Pauli, Hertha BSC to Karlsruhe etc.

Some of the Ultras groups have international friendships as well, like for example Ultras Frankfurt to Nomadi (Ultras Bergamo Italy), Verrückte Köpfe Insbruck (Wacker Insbruck Austria) as well as to teams in the lower divisions of Germany (Ultras Mannheim, Diablos Leipzig).

So yeah...its a pretty common thing to have supporters of other "friendly" clubs in the away/home sections.

Some more general videos:

Video to legalize flares and stuff on the terraces (its currently forbidden to use in Germany, however people always manage to get stuff past the security).

Supporter Area of my team (Eintracht Frankfurt) doing our version of the "Poznan" before it became cool. ;)

And some random summary of last seasons Choreographys (1st and 2nd division teams)

Bembeltown...

How could you have your name and forget the rivalry between OFC and Eintracht? How can that be? Oh - and the "Lilien" are there, too.

That is a Bembel

You carry applewine in it - and Bembeltown should be another name for Bankfurt or Frankfurt.

Offenbach and Frankfurt are two cities that are nearly grown together. There is not really a sympathy with anything - but especially not in soccer. I live at the other side of the Bavarian border so I have to cross Offenbach with the train to get to Frankfurt to work.

Offenbach has been in the first league years ago, but now has been traveling between 2nd and 3rd for awhile whereas Frankfurt has been a regular Bundesligateam until some years ago - now they lately move between 2nd league and Bundesliga.

Frankfurt is another one of the clubs that could be a real success and would have had all the possibilities - in the middle of the Rhein-Main-Area with 5.5 million inhabitants. But there always has been so much trouble in that club...

----------------------------

I have read the Schalkeforum today after Dortmund's loss. They where really celebrating...

Yeah I didnt really list Offenbach-Frankfurt as a derby simply because people from both towns might punch you in the face if you call it one city. ;)

Its a big rivalry thats for sure, but I didnt want to bother people with the 2nd,3rd tier rivalries, so I tried to stick to the famous ones in the first division.

I remember when Frankfurt was playing Offenbach for the first time since ages in the German coup a couple of years back I knew I had to get tickets at all cost.

When I phoned my parents to tell them that I managed to get tickets and plan to go my mom was begging me to stay at home as there was a lot of violence expected at the game (both clubs have a huge amount of hools/troublemakers) and it was pretty hyped on the media as the game of the year.

Well..I promised my mom to not go and went anyway. ;) After the match was over my mom called me on the mobile as she wanted to congratulate me that Frankfurt has won.

Bit of bad luck that I was standing just outside the stadium with the sound of police cars, yelling, cursing, glass bottles beeing thrown and what not in the background. So she noticed that I went to the game anyway and was not amused at all...

Ah well...a football supporter got to do what a football supporter got to do. ^^

Borussia Dortmund hasn´t recovered from their champions league exit and was held to a 1-1 draw vs. the „red devils“ from Kaiserslautern. Borussia M´gladbach looked poor without Marco Reus and was beaten 1-0 by the „puppet box“ in Augsburg. So Bayern has now secured the traditional „Herbstmeisterschaft“ (autumn championship) with one match to go before the winter break. Two Mario Gomez goals gave Bayern a 2-1 away victory at the „southern hit“ in Stuttgart, where VfB was reduced to ten men early in the match.

Transfer Rumours: Bayern may go for Gladbach star Marco Reus and therefore sell Arjen Robben at the end of the season and everyone is waiting for Lukas Podolski to decide his future. Schalke is showing interest in Prince Poldi as their forward Jefferson Farfan may head to italy in summer and Raul wants a two-year-contract, which is too expensive for Schalke

Actually - the town I am living in ist still Bavarian - I cross the border every day... My town is mixed. Somebody painted its house totally in Offenbach colours... - there is some Bayern fans, my neighbour loves Hamburg, a lot of Offenbach fans - and less Frankfurt fans even if the outskirts of Frankfurt are just 15 to 20 minutes away with the car.

The Bundesliga table looks again like this:

1
Bayern München
16 11 1 4 40:10 30 34

2
Borussia Dortmund (M)
16 9 4 3 31:11 20 31

5
Werder Bremen
16 9 2 5 30:26 4 29

6
Bayer Leverkusen
16 7 5 4 22:19 3 26

Dortmund has drawn again at home against the 16th Kaiserslautern, Gladbach has lots away against the last one Augsburg... Bayern is leading again with 3 points difference after they have been third 2 weeks ago... - That is Bundesliga...

Robben played 85 minutes... - actually everybody got off the flu.

@Ruhr

You have beaten me. But I was switching between cooking and writing. Late dinner as we slept look today and have off the week. Funny that it is Sauerkraut - and we only eat that once a year...

The rumours are stupid. Nobody would give away the likes of Robben for a player you do not know how he will play in an other system, never has played internationally and from whom you do not know how he will develop in the Munich "shark-house"...

The Bundesliga is in its traditional winter break and most of the teams are preparing somewhere in the sun. So time for some statistics.
