German Cup Quarterfinal: Bayern vs Dortmund :-)

The Bratwürst are on the grill and the Augustiner are already in the fridge.

Get some from Aldi - Uli Hoeness sausage company is delivering to them (I do not know if they are usually on stock in England - but there is some weeks to go until then and it might be available during some special week...). And the meat is out of the company of Schalke's president Tönnies...

That should be enough to beat Dortmund. ;)

Compilation of all our goals so far...

Really proud to see what Armin Veh achieved with this young and freshly promoted side. Really nice, fast paced attacking football.

Just hoping we are able to keep the team together now....

Always a problem when Bayern are around. If they sense competition they will be sticking a bid in.

I wonder how long it will be before they start having secret meetings with Stefan Kießling and Andre Schürrle of Leverkusen.

Not that they've ever bullied clubs into selling players to them.

Why? Kießling is not good enough for a Bayern player - and we have better options than a Schürrle...

Gomez has a goal ration of one goal every 52 minutes right now. Kießling is not the type of player that would be fit against the opponents Bayern faces. He has a worse goal ration per minute that Mandzukic has who is forward no. 2 at Bayern - and is more clinical...

If you really wanted to know how much depth the Bundesliga has you should have watched the cup match between Augsburg and Bayern today. If Augsburg (clear on rank 17 right now) would have somebody who can finish chances Bayern would have looked pretty old...

Isn't the Bayern tactic to weaken teams around them rather than be too arsed about strenghtening their own?;)

I've seen enough of Augsburg this season to know they are very poor. I actually watched Offenbach v Fortuna and Dortmund v Hannover this week. Dortmund were outstanding. Düsseldorf and Hannover were rotten. Stuttgart looked pretty damned average against Cologne too.

I don't want to put the Bundesliga down because I love watching it but the standard of some of the lesser teams isn't as fantastic as is being made out.

I remember seeing QPR creating a bag full of chances against City at Loftus Road last season. These games happen.

Going to pick a German team to follow and support. Going to do research on it now, any suggestions? A bit of an underdog with a good fan base?

Freiburg

real low budget club that currently is no. 5 in the Bundesliga - everybody thought they will get relegated after the first part of last season on the last rank and Papiss Demba Cisse leaving - but they were a lot better in the second half and this season they are a real tough cookie to beat.
Great young team, great coach
Support is more regional

No tears to expect this year.

Augsburg

Great team with a big handicap - decent forwards. Gave Bayern a real great fight in both matches in cup and league the last two weeks. They just miss somebody to convert their chances. That might get them relegated at the end of the season. Currently rank 17 with 3 points to rank 16 (would mean two matches against the 3rd of league 2 for relegation) and a real lot to rank 15.

Support is more regional, too.

Thanks mate, been reading a lot about Borussia Mönchengladbach. I like the sound of them and Luuk De Jong is a good player. Seems they were relegated but have now returned and looking strong.

Anything I should know about them that might put me off? Ring wing fan base or rag arrogance?

Gladbach is a club with a big history - was very big in the 70s with Netzer, Heynckes (the Bayern coach)... figthing with Bayern for the top spot for a couple of years before and after the big Bayern period of the beginning of the 70s. Heynckes would have been awarded the goal cannon a couple of times - if there had not been a Gerd Müller. Matthäus started his carreer at Gladbach as well as Stefan Effenberg (not homegrown, Matthäus comes from near Nürnberg, Effenberg from Hamburg - but they arrived their with 18).

They were no starters for the Bundesliga in 1963 - they came up with Bayern in 1965. And went down twice end of the 90s and in 2007 or 08 to come back a year or two later into the Bundesliga again. They struggled 2 years ago - but won the relegation duells against the third of the second league - and the following year were fourth.

Lucien Favre is a good coach. Their problem this year is that their best players left. Reus to Dortmund, Dante to Bayern and Neustädter to Schalke. He tries to rebuild the team - and to apply his tactics to the new build up.

Arango is great with real genius goals - but he is not very productive. Xhaka has not really arrived in the Bundesliga not like his ex-teammate Shaqiri at Bayern.

Gladbach has the disadvantage that their city is not that big and they compete in a region with a lot of big clubs.

I'm going to start following the Gladbach games. Hopefully I get into it and have a good time watching this.

Thanks Maldeika I hope you smash Arsenal.
