Bundesliga

I get to catch a couple Bundesliga games a week on GOLTV, excellent action and very, very little diving like you see in Serie A and Liga

I'm over in Hamburg in January with work, seriously considering watching a game. The beer is meant to be immense.

Could be tricky, the winter break in Germany goes from weekend before christmas to last weekend in January usually.

Ah really? Bollocks, i'm there 21st - 25th.

Eight of us (dads and lads) from Dublin heading over to Hamburg at the weekend for their game against Stuttgart. Looking forward to it. Has anyone who has been there before ( at uefa qfinal maybe) got any recommendations for bars etc?

The Reeperbahn was where the majority of city fans went. You should probably be aware its the red light district area though so maybe avoid it the 'lads' are an impressionable age. It was awsome when we played there though. I dont think Ive ever celebrated a goal more than the one Ireland scored in that game (maybe at wembley but I cant be sure), shame it went downhill from there.

In response to the original poster, I agree that the Bundesliga is really good due to its unpredictability and what seems like a far better fan experience; namely being aloud to drink whilst watching the game, standing areas, and cheaper ticketing.

Bayern have been doing poorly but they have a long injury list to some of their best players. Other big teams are struggling as well though namely Schalke and Stuttgart and now Werder Bremen as well. Overall I would say Dortmund deserve to be so clear at the top because they are playing good football. ESPN show some live games but theres always review show on Monday evenings to catch up on the weekends action. I would recommend it to anyone

Best league in the world. Might not have any Messi's, Ronaldo's, Silva's ect but for value for money and entertainment it shits all over anyone else.

The Bundesliga's great. Match tickets are ridiculously cheap (compared to the UK), good beer everywhere and always a top atmosphere. Unfortunately in Leipzig we don't get much chance to see Bundesliga football, but places like Dresden, Berlin and Aue are not far away.
If you can get to a game, make sure you go in the terraces (yes, terraces!).
However, if you want the best atmosphere at a game, try and see lower division teams in old, run-down stadiums. Pay a couple of Euros entry, drink a Glühwein, eat a Bratwurst and get talking to the locals. I guarantee it'll be one of the best football experiences you've ever had (except for the 5-1!).

Btw, Dortmund's average gate is larger then Stretford's, and Jürgen Klopp is a genius!

From a number of standpoints, it is by far the best league in Europe for the fans.

Been following this year's Bundesliga quite closely and everyone would expect your Bayern or Wolfsberg to be top but look at the table, such an open league that changes nearly from top to bottom every year. I bet not many of you could name a single player who plays for Borussia Dortmund, i still can't.

Mats Hummel is a great young player. Played in the under 21 Euro cup final against England, and was immense. Looks like a very good player for the future and one we could have a look at.

-- Thu Nov 25, 2010 9:26 am --

They seem to have the best ran league around. The only club i heard about nearly going bust was Dortmund, and that was a couple of years ago when they had Metzelder. Finacially sound and very competitive, both on domestic and european stage. I like the german league.

I know quite a bit of Dortmund as they are my German team after going out with a girl from the area back in the days of Andy Möller and Matthias Sammer.

They have been playing some excellent football this season mainly inspired by Shinji Kagawa, an attacking midfielder who was signed for peanuts in the summer.

Nevan Subotic and Mats Hummels are as good a cetral defensive partnership as there is in the league. Lucas Barrios is again banging in the goals for fun and the young midfielders such as Sahin, Götze and Großkreutz could provide a great platform for years to come.

Jurgen Klopp has done a superb job dragging the club out of six or seven years of abject medicority, especially considering the club's financial troubles and the fact he has had very little money to spend.

At seven points clear of Mainz, who wont stay the distance, it's a massive lead. Only Leverkusen and Bayern really provide much of a threat and Bayern should be too far behind now (14 points) and Leverkusen are Leverkusen. They always blow up when close to winning anything.

It really is Dortmund's to lose now and they look far too good for the rest at the moment. The only doubt is a side that hasn't many players with experience of being in such a position. The club won it in 1995, 1996 and 2002 though, so the weight of anticipation, expectation and hope on the club as a whole would not be anywhere near as heavy as it would be at City
