Burnley (A) | Post Match Thread

I think he is having a good but quiet season, but there's a reason he played today and probably won't be playing mid-week and next Sunday.
Completely agree there. I actually said to the missus during the match that there was obviously a reason he wasn’t subbed whilst Kev and Phil were.

I know many don’t like even mild (satirical) criticism of our own — and I do agree there’s no place for OTT slagging of our players — but I think it is perfectly fair to criticise current players’ form and whether they should be included in more challenging/important games.

No one is saying Jack can’t settle and contribute to City success in the future, but right now he has largely been more a hinderance than a help in the matches he’s played, hence the perfectly reasonable questions about his suitability for the challenges at the business end of the season.

I barely come on to post these days, so can’t be accused of bias, but I do watch all of our matches (some twice if I think it offers some insights to do so) and I have not been impressed with his contributions at all but still hold out hope this is just the settling in period many players have to suffer through under Pep.
I think gundo and Bernardo will be in for the majority in the big games in the run in, Grealish is an easy target but have to agree, we’re less fluid and it invariably breaks down our attacks

Always try to ignore the fee when judging Grealish , but its difficult when he plays like today ,he contributed next to nothing Jesus did more in twenty minutes than Jack did all the game , we need more end product ,Pep has backed him 100% and picked him when others have probably had a better shout for a starting place.
Ive no doubt Jack will improve over the next twelve months , but we need something different on the left right now the business end of the season, Foden or Sterling will produce far more.
I’ve seen enough to be excited about the future. Just a thought that perhaps pep selects him so he can grow into the team and the system? Lots of games coming up and I’m sure there’ll be rotation. Perhaps Phil playing in the false nine is a learning process for all, not just Foden.

Anyway, a solid win, more so after Liverpool’s win. We have balls and I’m proud of the team.

They have to come to us and think carefully about tactics. We can play our own game.

I ve read your bollocks and I’ve listened to Pep’s opinions I’m siding with Pep
I am not sure you fully understand how Pep operates in the public vs private spheres (i.e. he almost always publicly backs players, but will signal how he actually feels about their performances/contribution with his selections, as he has done with Grealish), but I suppose we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this subject.

Agreed. As I said, this could just be the infamous Pep settling period many of our players have had to persevere through, but I am not sure anyone (even Pep, and especially not Jack) thinks he is having a particularly great first season.
