Burnley - Post match thread

I must admit I thought the goal they scored was contentious because the keeper had two hands on it and it was headed out of them but the ball crosses the line off the bar before that. Keown on MOTD to his credit pointed out there's an arm in Bravos face that should have been a foul before the ball gets to their player though. That was a foul despite what Kevin Kilbane says(arms by your side not up in anyone's face, everyone knows that Kevin) but I didn't spot that in real time so to expect our incompetent officials at the game to spot it and give it is asking too much.

All we can do is watch in utter disbelief at the comical and inconsistent officiating that comes our way.
I hope we can rise above it and smash all in our path.
Come on CITY. We can catch the cockney cnuts. As long as delusional Victimpool don't win anything, I'll settle for top 4.
Stay strong Pep, make Arteta do your post match press conferences from now on. Fcuk them. Cnuts.

This is my list from memory as to Mason's woeful refereeing that MOTD airbrushed out of existence:
- Burnley's striker tripped and pulled down Kolarov to allow Grey to run through the gap for a run on goal.
- Bringing the ball back for a free kick to us when Navas had been put through on goal - a calculated decision by Mason (a classic sign of a referee fixed football match BTW);
- The Kamikaze kick on KDB that sent him flying as he went down the wing - Good job a foot wasn't planted when the kick made contact - Only a yellow card;
- Taking out Silva on the goal line as Silva pulled it back. How the ref failed to see that and not give a penalty is simply beyond me;
- Burnley players continually climbing on the shoulders of City players and not being pulled up for fouls.

Anything else?

I'll ignore the sending off that was in my opinion a tad harsh (and nothing compared to Rojo's recent efforts) and the Burnley Goal decision.

Can't wait for MOTD, but only to see their goal. I had Bravo being fouled twice during that, as you are not allowed to touch the keeper in that box. They'll probably ignore the ruling and say he should be stronger.!
Congratulations sir. Bang on the button. (Well - half of the pundits...)

Nowt wrong with either of those two decisions; about the only ones he got right, mind!

Seeing the Aguero goal again from the camera almost inside the goal, it's a staggering finish, real "eye of the needle " stuff. The defender on the near post must still be wondering how the ball got past him!

The free kick on the edge of our box early doors for a shoulder charge, I think by Yaya. Later Kolarov nearly gets knocked into the Southstand and he gives a corner to them

BBC have just done some damage limitation on MOTD after the (pardon the pun) savagery on 6-0-6 earlier. Much as it pains me to say it, clear red and now't wrong with their goal. Aside from that, we were immense today.

Nothing wrong with the Pep interview. The BBC are just trying to cause a controversy where non exists for whatever reason. I've totally lost faith in the "impartial" BBC media machine. They've had an agenda for years.

Time to fight back. We seriously need to get behind the Team, and stop slagging them off at every given opportunity. Far too many folk around these parts desperate for the usual bunch of weekly scapegoats to make the tiniest mistake so they can unleash their anger. Win, loose or draw we should be fully behind our Club (Team, Manager and coaching staff). The media scumbags will be trawling the social media sites and forums looking for any scraps to get their teeth into.

Well said that man.

To be fair, on the Pep thing I think when it come to the questioning you could probably lift them and drop them in to any other post match interview with any other manager in the same circumstances. The questions a journo needs to ask are the questions that fans will be discussing in the pub after the match, and they want the manager's take on it (and a reaction). Fans everywhere after the match would be discussing was it a red, is he a liability, can we still win the league etc, so I don't think you can argue with the questions. Yeah OK, the fact it was awkward watching was blown out of all proportion, but we've got to realise that with almost ANY big manager to ANY big club, the press want to see them fall flat on their faces and will bear bait. The real issue was the 'causing controversy where none existed'. Basically, they know that our fans going off their nut's also makes for good radio, so commenting on it in the way he did was just an easy win for getting a busy phone in. Looking at it subjectively, Rodgers got it at Liverpool and I remember them last two jokers for the rags getting loads of stick from journos at the slightest hint of a chink in their armour - 'are you going to resign', 'was the job too big for you' etc. We've got the biggest name in football management in his first outing in the Prem so it's got to be expected to that extent

An amazing goal. A triple cannon - glanced ofs the inside of the post and just touched the back of the first defender and the shoulder of the second defender as it crossed the line.

Best part of the day - the 3 minute chan't of "banker" (misprint) to Mason as he ignored the blant penalty on Silva. It really made me feel better.

To be fair, that hasn't been a rule for years. I thought Bravo was impeded by the high arm of Vokes and so it should have been a foul anyway though.

From the BBC match report:

Burnley have only won a single point away from Turf Moor this season, but they can count themselves unlucky not to follow their October draw at Old Trafford with similar on their return to Manchester.

While they confounded United with a stubborn rearguard action, Sean Dyche's side went toe-to-toe with City even before Fernandinho's red card gave them an extra man.

Mee's goal, awarded with help by the decision review system, exposed goalkeeper Claudio Bravo's uncertainty in the air, but Burnley created enough to take a point without City's errors.

Fuck off. Is there still an email address we can moan to at the BBC?

You have to be fucking kidding me.

Haha brilliant.

Must've watched a different game to me then.

Atrocious refereeing again but more worrying was our performance. We looked so disjointed and our passing was woeful. We now have Everton and an in form Spurs on the horizon and I just can't see how we're going to get anything from these two games.

The player should probably have walked for persistent fouling for that one or even earlier. Poor from the ref. It was a bit similar in some ways to the Watford game. They'd obviously decided to play a physical game without kicking us off the park. So lots of nudges, arms and some blatant off the ball stuff that went unpunished. They know they'll get away with lots of it against City so they push it as far as possible. We are a bit flaky in the air though with Otamendi and Bravo. The TV loves that bustling English type of forward play but the refs have to do their job properly. Both their forwards could have had yellows in the first half for deliberately taking out City players with no attempt to play the ball.

Shame it's all overshadowed the second half which was about Guardiola taking a positive approach to going down to 10 men. Not all managers would.
