Burton (First Leg) Post Match Thread

Surely it would be more disrespectful to have eased off

We showed professionalism for the entire game and so did Burton. They kept going and fought to the end trying their best and not trying to kick the shit out of us

Clough, his staff and everyone at Burton deserve huge credit for their cup run and I hope they do well in the league for the rest of their season

Wow, that was enjoyable! What impressed me was how the players, even when the tie was won, still fought for everything. No showboating, no fannying about, just determined professionalism. What a fantastic worth ethic the manager has got from this bunch of players. Wembley here we come.

They played some good stuff, another decent footballing side from the lower leagues, it’s what you’d like to see if you were a Burton fan instead of kick and rush like Cardiff. Just got back and watching again and they did knock it about neatly at times.
I wasn't there, armchair these days for this competition, but they played some decent stuff, a bit naive at times, but they never gave up fighting, we were just very good.

Odd that the media keep mentioning Liverpool winning 10 - 0 v Fulham in the league cup (still record single match score) over 30 years ago. Why was that not disrespectful too ? That was 4-0 at half time and they scored 4 in the last 20 minutes. Why did they not ease up?

Oh and they had 13,400 fans at Anfield. We had over 35,000 tonight. Why were there not more goals than fans at Liverpool when the ratio was 1 goal for 1340 fans at Anfield and 1 goal for nearly 4000 tonight?

Just so we can out disrespect Liverpool further they won the away leg 3-2 and that result - 13-2 is still the biggest aggregate win over two legs.

So we know what to do - score 5 at Burton and then Liverpool can lose all that terrible disrespect against Fulham they must have had to live with for so long. As I am sure yopu all remember them being criticised over.

32,089 there tonight.

What was really impressive .when Walker scored it showed how brilliant the spirit is within the squad He hasnt been at his best lately. been dropped yet the pleasure and relief was shared amongst them all great stuff

Talk Sport were doing their usual baiting on the way home, fucking pricks focusing on whether Foden should leave because we only gave him 30 mins, lol.

They stuck their jobs as best they could. They will learn so much from this game tonight too. Some of them leaving with city shirts and stories to tell their grandkids one day.
Class act by Merlin giving the lad his shirt on the pitch. A small gesture by Merlin, but probably will never ever be forgotten by that lad.
We played our game without being cocky or showboating and showed them respect by fielding a strong team.
No need to risk some of the big guns in the second leg, but Mahrez,Gundog, Foden should start. They are more than capable of running the show.
Hopefully there’s no niggles or injuries.

I'm worried scoring 9 won't be enough. How typical city would it be to lose the 2nd leg by 10.

:(

All respect to Burton, they tried their best, this is what Cup games are all about, little clubs playing big clubs, no need for City to ease off, Burton get their payday and their players get to tell their grandkids all about it, so its great for everyone concerned.
As others observed - they came to try and play without giving us a good hoofing.
Wasn't pretty for them, and I hope it doesn't impact the rest of their season too much
Burton have proved that teams can break into the league and make a decent fist of it - a league cup semi-final is nowt to be sniffed at

brilliant game, they worked so hard. Motm Jesus for the goals but every week he runs his arse off too, he deserves a lot more.

The disrespect thing is bollocks, did Klopp respect his fans when they were duped into travelling to an away game they wouldnt try to win. We paid £46 for tonights game and it was well worth it

We’ve taken another step forward this season. Now we can slot second choice players, in numbers, into the first team and not lose our fluidity, dynamism and effectiveness. That is a massive strength in a crowded fixture schedule.

It bodes well to win multiple trophies again. Obviously luck plays a part, but I wouldn’t put it past us to win 3 this season.
