Burton (First Leg) Post Match Thread

Several in the prematch thread did specifically point out that Burton’s odd to win were not far off those many books were giving for us to win 9-0...

Hindsight and all that.

I had De-Bruyne 1st goal and 6 nil. I’d accepted at half time it was gonna be more than 6

So technically not part of his hat-trick then?
:)
I count any of a striker’s goals as part of a ‘hat trick’, as long as as there are at least three in a single game. It is a general set, so order for recognition is arbitrary! ;-)

Superb performance but how was it not a penalty on Jesus?
VAR shows he’s fouled in the box no doubt about it but not given . Doesn’t make a great deal of difference but I just don’t get this VAR

A hat-trick is the players first 3 consecutive goals in a game. 4 = haul. Just googled it.
If it's uninterrupted by any other player scoring it's a natural hat-trick.

Looks like the second leg of this will clash with the EFL Trophy again, so doubtless we'll get yet more stick for only using 4 or 5 kids.

That’s one definition, often referred to as a ‘natural hat trick’, though, as you said.

The more general definition is ‘three successes of the same kind, especially consecutive ones within a limited period’; note ‘especially’, rather than ‘only’.

I’ve never liked the consecutive goals definition that some use, because from a statistical point of view it is arbitrary.

Plus it fucks up your original post ;-)
