Though the deal that brought Carlos to City was an absolute master stroke, and though he has undoubtedly been the main ingredient throughout the past two seasons in taking us forward to the brink of a real and prolonged future success. Claiming our first proper silverware in so very many years in the process, now in my mind is exactly the right time to relinquish his contract and sever our ties.
His work ethic and attitude has never been in doubt and you can be assured he will always run himself into the ground in every game he plays, but effort and work has to be combined with form and intelligence to achieve any real balance. Certainly during the last six months his form, intelligence and any team ethic has to be seriously called into question, in fact the dramatic difference between the Tevez of two years ago and the apparent egotist we have as our current Captain, are so remote they are like two entirely different men.
I've said it myself too many times now and know the majority of other Blues now easily recognise the selfishness that seems to have gripped Carlos, to such an extent that time and time again, whenever he receives a pass a monster seems to take over, he becomes blind to everything and everyone else around him, failing to consider those often better placed, and runs blindly with only one thing in his mind, to bolster his ego and boost his personal reputation.
Yes he will always score with this mindset, but at a price to the team, that I for one think we can now manage without. In several of the games we have played without him, there have been greater opportunities for others to cash in and those performances have resulted in a freer and often more varied and balanced attacking style.
We needed Tevez when he was signed, and he has been the one to lead us by brilliant example to the next level, but though we should always appreciate his genius and pay homage for his sterling efforts, the time is now right for him to leave for his own sake, for ours and for the Clubs at a price which must now be at a premium.
He may ultimately prove to be irreplaceable to an extent, but in comparison to Silva, they are like Beauty and the Beast. Good luck Carlos, thanks for all your help and fantastic work, but for me your decline started this season and last season was undoubtedly your very finest hour, and one I doubt you'll ever mange to equal.
