Campaign Against Use of the Term 'EPL'

I call it football, the NFL, or American football depending on the audience. I also refer to football as football or European football depending on the audience. It's quite easy really.

And I have heard British journalists refer to "the Italian Serie A." That one always makes me squint a bit.

To be honest I'm not to bothered what people call different leagues or sports as long as I can understand what they are talking about. Thanks for the infomation.

Not entirely sure Americans call American Football American Football either? Isn't it just Football to them?

You can be quite sure nobody calls it American Football here.

So are you inundated with English, French , German, whoever 'fans' constantly bombarding you with the term 'American Football' then?

Or a stealthy campaign by the NFL to rebrand the sport as 'American Football' and encourage those within the game to increase the use of 'American Football' as the recognised way of referring to a sport that has never previously been referred to that way?

Because if you aren't (Well, I know you aren't) then it isn't the same.

I imagine that US NFL fans would be even more pissed off than anyone here if they were subjected to constant referrals to 'American Football.' And that one would at least have some historical and linguistic rationale to it.

both sports are football to me. Like what taconinja said, it depends on your audience. But on the other hand, people know which football you're talking about when you're talking about midfielders or offensive linemen.

Not really. Calling it "eggball" is annoying though.

Linesman who can't see a simple offside? Or are they just offensively bad at their jobs?

they usually can't see the offside because they're too fat to keep up with play :p
