Campaign Against Use of the Term 'EPL'

Are we rude enough to re-name American sports when they are on TV over here?
Well, yes actually. You might be surprised to know that American Football isn't known as American Football over there.

pominoz is correct, it's referred to as the English Premier League everywhere but home. It's all a bit NBA/NFLish for my liking, but it's not worth losing any sleep over. Many, many, many more people watch the Premier League abroad than in England and this is how the powers that be have chosen to package the English game to them, so you'd better get used to it.

In my opinion, this is where the problem lies. People have a 'just accept it' or 'just get used to it' attitude. Same reason we have a government which is allowed to walk all over us, because we just sit back and allow bad things to happen.

Well do something more constructive with your 'campaign' about this heinous crime than moaning about it on a message board.

Your anger seems to be completely misdirected though as you appear to be blaming foreigners for being such disrepectful bastards when in fact it is the good old English people at the Premier League themselves who have packaged the game this way in foreign markets for years.

Come on now, we both know that there is a genuinely valid reason for that - two sports with the exact same name could never work. (And I don't think we need to get started on the name of their 'football' - I'm sure we've all covered that particular subject before!)

But the Premier League doesn't get renamed for the sake of avoiding confusion.

like a chelsea or liverpool fan I'd just like to say BOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Heh heh! I won't go there...

In fact, this thread has become much more unpleasant than I intended, so I shall leave it there.

As Dudia Blue posted, have a go at the Premier Leaque that promotes it as the EPL,and not at the people from overseas that use the term.

It all depends on who you are taking too. If you start talking to someone and are just reffering to it as the premier league some dont know what that is here in australia but say the EPL and they are with you, no blank expressions whilst you talk on and on about your beloved blues.
To be honest its also the same with the most cringeworthy terminology ever "soccer". Again, you could be talking about football and how its been a great season and the australians are thinking you are referring to their "football", so the majority of the time you end up saying soccer, but feeling it sounds so wrong.
So for pure ease and lack of confussion sometimes its easier to go with the local terminology.
