Can they ever be caught?

I’ll juat be happy if Pep stays another two years after this one and we win a hat trick of PLs, a CL and 3-4 domestic cups in that time. Not looking beyond that at all.

Have to say I couldn’t care less. Wittering on about what they won in the dim and distant is the domain of your average rag or dipper. I’m just revelling in our 7 year ongoing sojourn as the best side in the country. Here and now’s what counts and with every passing day what the dippers won in the 70’s and 80’s becomes as irrelevant as what Huddersfield won in the 1930’s
I disagree. I think the past is greatly important. It’s like saying you’ve never had that VHS of the Mercer-Allison era or that “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” banner should come down or that Tony Book and Mike Summerbee shouldn’t come out with the team at the end of the season if we go on to lift the Prem trophy because they’re from the past and should be forgotten now we’re achieving these things with a new bunch.

What Villa Sunderland SheffWeds Huddersfield Everton and many other clubs achieved in the past is something everyone should know about and recognise. Those achievements are never irrelevant. The amount of people in this thread who didn’t know that Villa and Everton had won so much and call themselves football fans is alarming really.

I actually find it quite sad that the likes of Huddersfield, and others, aren’t recognised more for their past achievements. Every season past has built the sport in this country to what it is today.

Sunderland won the title 6 times ????
Also, Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle have won 4 each.

Before the takeover when we’d won two league titles, same as Spurs, Blackburn Huddersfield Wolves and Leeds had all won more league titles than us.

There’s a world of difference between being aware of your (and others) history, and being consumed by it. I know exactly where City, Everton, Spurs etc stand in the historical pecking order, and I've savoured all of our ups and downs for 5 decades and seen first hand how they’ve shaped us as supporters. The day I start braying to, let’s say, a Sheffield United supporter however, about how much more we’ve won than them and how they’ve got “no history”, will be the day I make the final transition from City fan to prize cock.

Indeed. Let’s hope we all stay like that as a fanbase

History is fine if you had the pleasure of seeing your team win trophies. The 93:20 moment will forever give me a warm glow but right here, right now is more important; as is where you are headed.

Exactly.

I do find it frustrating (is probably the best word) that supporters of other clubs try to give it out that City have no history because it is usually born of ignorance. So I find it slightly disappointing when our own supporters don't know a bit more about the history of other clubs. Not that I would win any prizes; however, I have fifty years of following the game to my name and as a lad I owned a few books that covered the history of the game and listed who won what season by season in this country, which I loved to study. I wish I'd kept them all.

One bit of history I find interesting is the all-time league table for the top flight; especially when adjusted to eliminate the difference caused by the three points for a win era i.e. all done at two points for a win. City sit sixth in the adjusted table, behind Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Rags & The Vile. Spurs and Chelsea jump above us on actual points gained due to the 3 point era which saw us spend too long outside the top flight. Bottom line on that though is don't let anyone tell you we are not a big six side ;-)

This discussion is premature and pointless. It's like breaking the wind in a row record or the dubious ''number of goals in a calendar year."

All these are things you look back at... Not forward to. The only important discussions are those immediate goals worth looking forward to.

Assume the Pep philosophy. Our goal is simply to win the next game and then the next and then the next. At the end of the week, month, decade, century others can look back and appreciate what has been done by different teams.

But right now it's all quite a boring discussion to "look forward to what we'd like to look back to"

Funny enough English Journos can't seem to help themselves as they keep finding more ways to ask the same question

"Pep can your team be the greatest?

Stop asking! Time will reveal all.

Not sure what a row record is but I assume it's a type of small, enclosed space.
