Can we afford to let Barry go?

Glad that we got this deal sorted. Was never going to be a part of the plans for this season. Pelli has done a great deal to get him off the books and Everton are paying all his wages result. We will be stronger with out him as the players we have enough in the squad to cope without him. Lets be honest he is 32 give or take and it is going to be harder for a player like him to get regular football. I think he done well enough to last as long as he did here.

I'm sorry to see him leave. When he first signed I wasn't sure about him, but IMO he has been one of our most important players for the last few seasons.

Good luck with your new club GB!

Still too distraught to talk about this.

Everton confirmed they will pay all the wages last night apparently:

#mcfc agreed to Barry loan as #efc said they will pay 100% of his wages for the season. 100k + per week off city wage bill @SunSportNow

David McDonnell ‏@DiscoMirror 10h

Gareth Barry has gone on a season-long loan from Man City to Everton, who will cover all of his wages as a condition of the deal #MCFC #EFC
If its his last season & they are paying all his wages
Why not do it as a free transfer than a loan deal
Because he would be available to play against us?

-- Tue Sep 03, 2013 10:43 am --

Maybe Gareth wanted more options at the end of his contract ?

If we'd free transferred Barry we would've had to pay the last 12 months of his contract off. If we'd sold him to Everton we would've had to have paid him loyalty bonus. This way we get him off the wage bill a year early without paying him a penny, and, he can't play against us but can play against all our rivals. It was the best possible deal we could've done financially.
Far more comprehensive than my effort and entirely correct.

People are acting like Gareth Barry is Yaya Toure and Toure is Barry. Medium quality player who cannot compete with any of what we have now and he is the twilight years of his career. No major loss here and lucky to have a team take him on for his full wages.

Too true mate. His days were numbered at the club once you seen who has been signed over the last season and this one. The club were never going to give him a new contract and we needed to move him on. Its football and how it goes now.

My question would be,is he better than Garcia ?
And if you believe he is,why have we not moved Garcia on and kept Barry until the end of his contract
I know who I would rather depend on

Yes he is better than Garcia, but the fact that Garcia is 26 and Barry is 32, would have had a massive impact on this.
