We will never know if this was Txiki and a pure financial decision regardless of what Pellegrini thinks of Barry or that Pellegrini came in with Ferna/Yaya in mind. If the latter, then our new manager is incredibly naive about the PL. He is going to have to seriously re-think the formation because a flat two of Ferna/Yaya is a disaster. Both want to run in straight lines.
So Barry's absence financially makes sense but on the pitch its the wrong decision at the wrong time. Games like Stoke away are where Barry would have been important this season. Unless Pellegrini finds a way to balance Yaya/Ferna with another player in midfield in a different formation, we are in my opinion, going to have a long season.
