Can we afford to let Barry go?

Who'd have thunk that in little over a year after winning the title seven of our champions would be gone?
No time for sentiment in sport I guess.[/quotes

A new broom and all that. Txiki now has to be as accountable as MP
For our performances over the next season or two.

We seem to be putting a lot of eggs into the CL basket. Barry was very good against the rags at the swamp and his positional sense and tenacity helped with pressing the opposition midfield in the PL where pace isn't everything. I agree with very good points made by DD and others.

I don't understand this one at all.
We have loaned out a usefull player in his last season. What the fuck is in this for us? We lose an asset that had some market value, we pay part of his salary if rumours are to be believed and at the end of the season his contract is up.

It's the kind of crap that put Spanair to the wall!
No we are not paying any of his wage mate.

A relief if true mate.

Do you know if we have got a loan fee?

The circa 5 million pounds in wages which Everton are going to pay will feel like a loan fee!

I don't think we have no.

A good deal for City if MP had no plans to play him. He can play against our rivals but not us and his wages don't cost us anything and you have to remember that Barry was very much in favour of the move to ensure his playing time was high in a world cup year.

We will never know if this was Txiki and a pure financial decision regardless of what Pellegrini thinks of Barry or that Pellegrini came in with Ferna/Yaya in mind. If the latter, then our new manager is incredibly naive about the PL. He is going to have to seriously re-think the formation because a flat two of Ferna/Yaya is a disaster. Both want to run in straight lines.

So Barry's absence financially makes sense but on the pitch its the wrong decision at the wrong time. Games like Stoke away are where Barry would have been important this season. Unless Pellegrini finds a way to balance Yaya/Ferna with another player in midfield in a different formation, we are in my opinion, going to have a long season.

Hello mate. That's the first big issue facing the manager. What to do with our midfield. The defensive stuff will be sorted through training and personnel, but as it stands we have a big problem. Having done a lot of research on Pellegrini he favours a 4222 as we have been playing, but with very advanced full backs. This needs two tackling, mobile, positive-passing midfielders. And yaya isn't that. Your 'straight lines' point is pertinent, because there's no agility there.

Two possible solutions: drop yaya or change formation. Take a shit or get off the pot.

I think he will solve it, I'm certainly not worried. My guess is the latter, starting at stoke and continuing against united. I think he thought 4222 would work against the poorer teams, especially after Newcastle.

Everton confirmed they will pay all the wages last night apparently:

Martin Blackburn ‏@SunMartinB 9h

#mcfc agreed to Barry loan as #efc said they will pay 100% of his wages for the season. 100k + per week off city wage bill @SunSportNow

David McDonnell ‏@DiscoMirror 10h

Gareth Barry has gone on a season-long loan from Man City to Everton, who will cover all of his wages as a condition of the deal #MCFC #EFC

Mmmm. Not sure this is a good idea overall. Sure we get rid of a few mill off the wage bill, but GB is still Premiership class and I hope this does not come back to bite us on the arse. An injury or two to Yaya, Ferdi and Rodwell leaves us with Javi Garcia.
Out of Garcia and Barry , I know who I would have.
Anyway , greater footballing brains than mine are in control and only time will tell. In Pelli I trust!

For what its worth a poor decision IMHO.
Great player, great pro and we will miss him.
We might never know or realise it, but we will miss him.

Milner's the next one out of the door....

A good solid, PL player - nothing more.
