Can we cut Edin a break?

It's quite obvious the lad has a lack of confidence. After he scored today, he was absolutely flying. Trapped the ball batter, made some class touches and little flicks, he was all over the place.

He was thriving off that goal and it suddenly brought him to life. You could see before the goal, that extra little bit of belief wasn't there. After he got the goal, he started working harder and putting more effort it.

It shouldn't have to be like that, but you can tell he probably wants the ground to open and swallow him every time he makes a bad pass or misses a chance. The fans get on his back too much and he hears it, today Silva gifted QPR their goal but no one will say anything cause it was Silva. Imagine if that was Dzeko that tried to be smart and dribble the ball out....

It's easy to spot why Dzeko isn't exactly at his best for us, he's being used as a target man all the time and other players play off him. At Wolfsburg it was the other way round, he would play off the strikers and be fed everything.

After today he'll feel good about himself, got a goal and the last 20 minutes he played like his old self. He's got himself yet another important goal, maybe just maybe he needs a 4-5 run of games in the side. But we all know that won't happen, so you can't fault why he is so inconsistent. Even when he does get on, he has 10 minutes to do something, crowsd need to get off his back. Today people were shouting abuse at him when he lost the ball. reminded me of 2006 all over again. It was crossing the line, you'd think he was a rag.

Get behind him and look past the little negatives, it's not his fault we play different. It's not his fault Mancini deploys him as he does, we saw in early 2011 season that he can be a class act. He'll re discover that with game time and more confidence he get's after each game.

Dzeko won't start against Stoke simply because Aguero should be back for it.

And if you think he'll start in front of Sergio and Tevez, you're insane

The best team is with Tevez and Aguero up front. Nobody should really argue that point. It's frustrating when things don't go our way and we need the other 2 and they come through for us and still get called donkeys and so on. That's sort of the main point..Tevez and Aguero are great to watch and they'll create tons of chances but when the defences trap you, you'll need some air time and they are very ineffective at that part of the game. I don't even care that they aren't, they have other skills that are beneficial, just saying they have weaknesses just like the other 2.

damocles talks a lot of sense but when it comes to mario i think he is blinded..because he has invested so much into him....quoting medals etc

Dzeko coulda had 4 today if he'd been given the right pass, he is always in the right place (Kolarov's failure to play across the face, Milner's shit cross).... sure his touch is off at times but he does more good than harm, brings the ball down well and works hard....if he had a run of games he'd find his touch but we know he won't get that so we beat up on him when his touch is average at times...

TBH our passing today was always too slow or a half step behind.....was an all round poor performance...

City fans don't hate players at all, were the most charitable fans to current and ex players. However, Dzeko isn't good enough against the top teams and in Europe, why?

1. touch,
2. hold up play,
3. running with ball,
4. slows the game up so no counter attacks with him,
5. poor positional play which is why people don't pass to him,
6. misses too many chances,
7. we loose possession when he gets caught offside too much,
8. lazy, doesn't work hard enough for the team like Tevez and Aguero,

You must be insane. He scored everytime against Man U even with wolfsburg. He burried bayern with them to. he made 4 goals against tottenham. he had this counteratak against arsenal in cup. think you r sick to write this.

You're going to an extreme here. Do we have Messi on our team? The man can beat 4-5 players by himself easily. As for United, they got RVP to be the new front man..He can do it both ways, head and both feet. I am almost certain that getting rid of Balo and/or Dzeko and getting another Aguero would not get us to win the CL, yet according to so many that's exactly what we need. As soon as great defensive teams like Chelsea collapse you can forget about your ground game(hell even Messi couldn't beat them) and so those guys would be very frustrating to watch. We need a guy like Ibra and we are as close as we can be with Edin and Mario.

No we don't. I'm not going to an extreme, I'm pointing out that Man United have won about twenty leagues playing width without a big man to twat the ball to. And three CLs too. There's absolutely no evidence to support the idea that all teams need a big man up front to be successful. Quite the opposite.

And RVP is NOT good in the air. He scored once last season with a header, and lost two thirds of his aerial duels.

Let's look at all prospective CL Winners and their striking options:

United - Rooney/RVP
Barca - Sanchez/Villa
Madrid - Benzema/Higuain
Munich - Gomez/Muller
Dortmund - Lewandowski/Reus

In that entire lot, who exactly are there solely as aerial threats? Gomez is pretty good in the air, but he's a ground player. They are all ground players. Bezema and Rooney are power players but not aerial players.

It's Emile Heskey syndrome. Because people see his ability to be an outlet for long balls and his ability to win a header, they presume that he must be a positive for the team. Even if you go through all of the top teams in the Premiership, there's no Dzekos out there.

-- Sun Sep 02, 2012 1:47 am --

Out of all those i'd only say that he looks lazy at times and his touch is pretty bad at times as well. The other ones, let's consider this. If he misses that many chances and scored 20+ goals in Bundesliga multiple years, and 16 last year with us, what would happen if he was burying mostly everything? Hed be at 30+ goals easily and that's up there with CR and Messi..and he's just not that good. I'm fine with his goals. 20 or so for us and not being a regular would be fucking amazing! Give your head a shake please.

damocles you ate allowed to be wrong sometimes brother...and your blind faith in mario is wrong at the moment...instead of trying to bafflle and bully a wise man would say wait and see
