Can you legitimize your job?

Jobs I've done in the past I found myself unable to "legitimize" for example working in call centres, pestering you to sell some dodgy financial product.
Stacking shelves at Tesco and serving on the till I could somewhat legitimize as well there would be more people on this planet if it wasn't for smoke related deaths.
I might of sold someone a winning Lotto ticket? :D

These days I do voluntary outreach with Homeless projects in town, i know it is legit as i was directly serving food to people who were starving and giving out sleeping bags/warm clothing to them.
So yes it does help them, but it may not help you as I remember one guy who i helped, appear in the news a week later stealing a bike in the city centre :/

It's a strange world.

I'm going down a different path, one in which I feel I'm helping people more. The sales jobs and all that shit was just wank and I hated lying all the fucking time. one big fake industry.

I'm in a team that looks after dosing chlorine into people's drinking water and dosing chemicals into the sewer to stop hydrogen sulfide production. I'm kind of a big deal.

They trust you with that stuff? Oh dear.. I suppose I have to respect you in a way now.. but I'm not happy about it :)

^You drove a crane? Or vehicles of similar.. necessity? Seems pretty damn essential to me. Doctors need not apply to this thread. As a painter my job is aesthetics :/ But I also paint the little yellow strip bits on the edge of steps, stop mould returning, make people marginally happier (in a minuscule way), all needful in their own way.

Robots will put us out of business soon enough, good job I'm not planning on living long enough to take a pension. But some jobs are not worth while even now in this time..

Pfft!, crane drivers are pussies. They sit in the cab nice and warm and if the shit hits the fan they jump out. Most of the time I was at the scary end of the boom and if it all went tits up I went down with it.
