Capital Punishment.

As much as I dislike the yanks they don't fudge. Incarceration is just that. If it's life, it's life.

Its a privatised system where Prison Owners lobby the Government and states for tougher sentencing policies.... as they are paid on occupancy (this is something that is happening in the UK as we now have 14 privatised prisons.

Norway has a better system where prisoners are educated (taught to read , write , maths and some practical skills )as a result reoffending is down to 20% and they are closing prisons as a result.

Errr no
Let me put this another way - if a member of your family was murdered by a murder released to murder again would you still be in favour of murders walking our streets again.

I'm sure maybe this has happened in the past but I would be amazed if this has happened frequently over the years.

Murder usually means life and even when eligable for parole there is a high bar to be let out and strict conditions they must adhere to.

Our state cannot be trusted with such power. The police, the govn, have shown corruption, not just a few times, but continuously for hundreds of years.

They should NEVER have the power to end someone's life. That could be any of us.

That’s why friends and family don’t deliver sentences

I’d summary execute the person who broke into my house - but that’s not realistic

Shocking read that, if we had capital punishment a high possibility that this innocent man might not be here today
That wouldn’t be a case for capital punishment though as there isn’t irrefutable evidence. For capital punishment to be in place, a confession wouldn’t be enough. A confession isn’t absolute proof that something happened, even if a prison conviction comes of it, it’s just beyond reasonable doubt.

Beyond reasonable doubt is currently the highest burden of proof required for a conviction, but that wouldn’t be enough for capital punishment to be the outcome. There would need to be irrefutable evidence for capital punishment to be enacted; video evidence.

More frequently than you’d imagine unfortunately:-(

To support Capital punishment is to give the state permission to kill you, your children etc

So it’s a ‘no’ from me
All I wonder is just how many lives had been lost by removing the states right to apply the ultimate sanction on people who have no issues with killing people though.if we lived in a civilised utopian society I’d be against capital punishment as well.
I doubt very much if you or your children are potential murderers by the way.

Maybe we are, maybe we aren’t. But the state has killed countless people who most definitely were not who they thought were

I don’t like the idea of the state’s level being that of the worst members of society. Also, if you give the state the permission to execute murders then after that it is simply a negotiation - people who commit manslaughter, how about them? Rapists, they didn’t kill anyone but society could do without them. Bank robbers maybe, again, didn’t kill anyone but certainly undesirable….
