Captain Kompany

I've been here since 1975, and the odd game before then too

Look over the board, you'll find a theme where the attitude of the players is being questioned

We were missing players tonight, but we should have had more than enough to win the game tonight. We didn't because we didn't put enough into the game. And that's because we didn't want it enough. The Captain comes to symbolise the team so that's why I'm looking at him when we just don't show up in a game like tonight

Out of curiosity, what happens when the captain is off his game, like Vinny clearly is at the moment? Is that when we all gather around and start highlighting faults and looking for alternatives, cause it's broken at the moment? Is the captain meant to be infallible, without a bad game in his locker? I guess I'm more of a "support the guy and he'll come around that much quicker, because at his best there is no one better" type, but I also like acoustic guitars and long walks on the beach, so maybe I'm just a sensitive ladyboy.
A player can be off his game, but still try and take responsibility for putting it right

For 30 minutes after we scored the opener we stood right off Sunderland and they rained crosses in and should have equalised. You look for your big players to do something to change the mentality in the team at such occasions

Maybe I am being unfair on Kompany blaming him for the poor mentality of the team

We've seen City lose big games against Wigan twice, and probably lose the League tonight and in each game we weren't outclassed but we did not impose ourselves on the game

You are correct VK is to blame for the poor mentality in the team tonight and so are others naturally.

He has to get much better at leading this side on the pitch on matchdays or else we have to find someone else that can.

MP has to sit down with him over the summer and clearly come to grips with what he wants from his captaincy and how he will achieve it.

There was only one game this season when afterwards I really thought we were going to win the League and that was when we beat Hull away 2-0 with 10 men. That showed bottle. Utd won the League last season because they had a great mentality that saw them through games time and time again. We've never really had that. That's what's missing. Does that come from the Captain or from within every player? Probably a bit of both

Maybe the team won the League and that satisfied their hunger

Fergsuson always made a big deal about challenging his players and asking them if they were wanted to come back again and put in all the hard work to do it all again

Maybe our players have become a bit complacent. Fergsuon wasn't shy of moving players on who were at their peak of their game when he sensed they were losing focus.

He looked deflated BEFORE the game, today and against Liverpool. Perhaps deflated isn't the right word but he doesn't look entirely focussed and a lot of the squad don't either right now.

Can't really put my finger on what is going on exactly but I really hope that the players get a bit of belief back.

Maybe he felt like he had recently shanked a clearance to gift our title competition the win in the dying embers of the season, over the club that he holds dear (which even his detractors wouldn't argue against), with all of the world watching.

Some people here tout the "toughen up" or "pick yourself up by the boot straps" shit, but it's been 4 days since our captain felt like he lost us the league. There are some very legitimate athletes who have sporting moments they haven't gotten over decades later in their lives. 4 days... I'm not saying it's an excuse, but if you're wondering where a "bit of belief" has gone I don't think you have to look far. Should he get over it? Yeah. Will he get over it? I'd wager yes, no problem. Has he gotten over it yet? No, I don't think he has.

I don't know what he looked like before the game, but with the game on a knife-edge and Sunderland threatening to take over any moment, I thought we'd see Vinny step put of defence and step up the workrate as an example to others

Perhaps his injury whatever it is, is affecting his game

If he is injured , he is more of a liability than anything else because true leadership and inspiration are not his greatest qualities.

I would rather have Lescott in the side to be truthful if that was the case.

Tolmie mentioned it previously.

Very disappointed in him tonight, he should have destroyed that **** of a ref after browns challenge on kun like terry or Gerrard would of done

If there's a player we should have a go at it's not flipping kompany, my lord. Do you know now fortunate we are to have him? Who would you rather have instead? There isn't a better defender in the world. And who else would you give the captaincy at city? Zabba is the only other option.

Very good point.
