Car driving standards

Not sure what's changed as it never used to be a problem.

See also people using slip roads on dual carridgeways/ motorways. Match the speed or wait for a gap. Or just blindly pull out as it's your right to join. This also includes people who brake to let said idiot onto the road. Suddenly. With no thought to what's behind you.
Probably just move to the next lane as you approach a sliproad. Think that's common courtesy.

Some people are determined to push in though, can't legislate for that

Ideally yes but, it's not always feasible both from traffic volume and some dick in the middle lane not being road aware.
Of course, but you'd be surprised how many people just carry on at 56 mph in the inner lane past every junction and not even try to move over. Selfish.

People don't seem to realise that in the appropriate conditions, with a professional driver in the seat, such acceleration can be achieved.
However, on roads in the UK, there's always that puddle or pothole to put a stop to that.....

I'm sure anyone can do a sub 8 second 0-60 in the same car. All you need to do is make sure the correct settings are applied and then just floor it.

It's not like a manual where you'd need to change the gears quickly or know the torque/horsepower characteristics of the engine to know the ideal time to change up etc.

Happens at nearly everyone roundabout around here. The council have now put new road signs instructioning you how to drive !!. These are just ignored and people from the left lane still turn 90 degrees.

What i find strange up to about 3 or 4 years ago this rarely happen. What has made a high percentage of people ignore the road signs and the highway code and think they can drive like twats

There’s a definite lack of respect and entitlement in general in the world and that inevitably shows up in people’s driving habits. I tend to notice it when I’m out walking, the number of drivers still using their mobile phones is bizarre given the amount of alternatives. The other obvious one is how close people drive to the car infront leaving little stopping distance.

Driving standards around where I live Fylde will drop through the floor shortly.

Partly due to tourists who have no idea where they're going and increased volume of traffic. I'll be timing any runs through Blackpool etc around midweek or early mornings.

That said it's walking and cycling weather almost now which also causes issues with tourists who have no idea how to share a wide prom.

You see dickheads texting all the time in your rear view mirror......constantly looking up and down is the clue.

There's a roundabout near me to access J17 on the M60. Approaching from the north there are 3 lanes:
  • The left lane is for access to the eastbound M60/M62 only
  • The middle lane takes you straight on to the southbound A56 through Prestwich
  • The right lane can be used to go straight on or to access the anti-clockwise M60
  • Once you're on the roundabout it's just two lanes, so the middle lane on the approach becomes the left lane.
If you go straight on there's a right turn for a Tesco store, Prestwich Hospital and other places. If you're going there you need to be in the right lane approaching the roundabout. There used to be a lot of confusion with traffic in the left lane on the approach wanted to go straight on, and cutting in when they realised, and I hated using that roundabout for that reason.

Bury Council helpfully put up signage making it clear which lane you needed to be in and also changed the road surface of that middle approach lane to a different colour, so all you had to do was follow that colour and you'd be safely in the left lane on the roundabout itself.

You'd have to be a complete moron to get it wrong but it's amazing how many still take that middle lane on the approach, ignore the clear road surface colour that takes them into the left lane and pull across into the right lane completely oblivious to all the signs.

Not just common courtesy… that’s what you’re supposed to do.

Nobody should be in the slow lane at a slip road join.

More often than not they have their license from Wolverhampton, meander at 20mph on the main road, stop wherever they want to, I even saw one who stopped midway through a traffic light on a left hand turn.

Honestly, they have their head in the clouds and their phone on their hands.

I don’t know what the solution is but I do know that whilst this sort of driving isn’t policed it will only get worse.

'Where possible'.

However, it is the responsibility of joining driver to alter their speed accordingly to enable them to join safely. That's the whole purpose of the slip road. I see far too many people just dawdling along the slip road waiting for a gap to magically appear for them before running out of slip road and forcing themselves into the traffic at the last second. That is way more dangerous than someone simply maintaining their speed in lane 1.

Thanks Eddie.

So bad these days. Had some taxi driver doing 40mph on the M60 whilst on the phone. Decided to slam on for no reason as well which was dangerous. I always find bad drivers are in really shit cars with no disregard for people's lives around them.
