Car Insurance

Insurance companies rely on lazy / old people who don't shop around and auto renew. They're all robbing, scamming twats.

On a related note some dizzy old woman drove into the back of my car last year, needed a few grand in repairs. Absolutely nothing to do with my "risk" or driving at all. Totally her fault, her insurance paid etc.

Guess what - you still need to declare it on a renewal my premium went up a couple hundred quid.

I can *almost* understand why some people fuck it off and risk driving uninsured.
Fine for no insurance is a joke , compared to the actual cost of insurance

It's just to be hoped that you didn't fall for the protect your no claims scam as well ?

It's a real frustration the way they just feed on laziness and can force you into auto-renewing so charge you a fortune. Loyalty should be rewarded, they should be reducing the fee for customers not charging more - but so many will slip through the net it's a sensible business decision to charge more initially. Inevitably you ring up and they'll instantly lower it, but the hassle is bloody annoying.

Same thing happened to me twice since 2020 dozy fuckers not paying attention going into the back of me and I’ve had to pay for the pleasure

Just had my quote from Direct Line...no changes in my circumstances from last year but an increase of almost 33% in price....proper taking the piss.

I did a Meerkat search and found one at roughly the same price I paid last year with DL from the AA. Rang DL who couldn't match it but would reduce my quote by £60 and wouldn't go any lower.

End result they now have lost a customer and I'm paying about £10 more than last year.

Moral is shop around, don't be lazy just auto renewing.
Its all a load of shit too as these brands are mostly one company and all are underwritten by the same place, Lloyds of London or something, in any case.
Biggest con out there

I get the feeling you don't hold us "old people" in very high regard.. :)

Weirdly it's legal here to drive without insurance and a lot of young people do, to avoid the cost.

What scam is that? I always protect my no claims?
The one where they say that you still have 70% no claims, but your insurance just went up £400, and every other quote is the same because they all have access to the same records. You just got suckered into handing over the cash for imaginary protection, just like the old credit card, and loan protections of old that never paid out until the courts forced them to.
