Just had my quote from Direct Line...no changes in my circumstances from last year but an increase of almost 33% in price....proper taking the piss.

I did a Meerkat search and found one at roughly the same price I paid last year with DL from the AA. Rang DL who couldn't match it but would reduce my quote by £60 and wouldn't go any lower.

End result they now have lost a customer and I'm paying about £10 more than last year.

Moral is shop around, don't be lazy just auto renewing.

A slight difference with mine being house insurance. My home and contents become due next month, so I have done the usual look around the comparison sites before my renewal arrived to get an idea. The comparison sites were up around £20 from last year.

My renewal arrived yesterday, £10 less than last year. I'm pleasantly shocked to say the least ?

No doubt there'll be insurers revenge when my car insurance becomes due in September though......

Please tell me you went through topcashback too? Easy 30 to 40 quid.

Annoys me having to change provider every year why cant they just quote current customers the right price first time.
There is supposed to be no difference now between quotes for existing/new customers.

DL always come in high but I normally get them down to near enough whatever I've been quoted by comparison sites (they halved the increase on my call today but it was still £60 higher than my other quotes) as from the odd claim I've had to make over the years (40 driving) they give the best service. Told the lady on the phone their service was very good but she said she couldn't go lower than the reduction she'd offered.

Had a chat with a mate who works for DL he said prices will rise by 30% minimum partly due to EVs , I asked why he said EVs battery's cost up to £16,000 to replace & are likely to need replacing even in low speed crashes + costs for repairs in all cars have gone up by 40%

My pricing has been pretty much the same for about 5 years then had an increase of about 25% this year even after doing comparisons.

Direct line tried to put a near 60% hike on me last week from £277 to wanting £443.

Needless to say I will be with Hastings next year for £306.

Insurance companies rely on lazy / old people who don't shop around and auto renew. They're all robbing, scamming twats.

On a related note some dizzy old woman drove into the back of my car last year, needed a few grand in repairs. Absolutely nothing to do with my "risk" or driving at all. Totally her fault, her insurance paid etc.

Guess what - you still need to declare it on a renewal my premium went up a couple hundred quid.

I can *almost* understand why some people fuck it off and risk driving uninsured.
