Carabao Cup Final Post-Match Thread

If Aguero was on the bench and doing amazingly every time he played once a month, would you say he's being managed perfectly, or would you say that this player clearly should be starting more?

How do you know Foden couldn't play 2x as many games and still be playing as well?

Of course he might be. but City might not be have won 8 out of the 9 last domestic trophies. That's what Pep has to balance. Winning games, keeping the whole squad happy and developing youth.

Or much more likely, they might have still won 8 of the last 9 because actually Foden's not hurting the team.

Yesterday was the best performance by someone in that RW slot for weeks, so arguably any of them.

But that's also a bullshit argument because how can any player make a case for being better when he only plays once a month?

It’s probably down to what Pep is privy to in training, whilst our hearts tend to rule our heads when it comes to home grown talent.

Pep also caused Jadon Sancho to go because he was hellbent on signing Alexis Sanchez.

He's not infallible especially around youth development.

What impressed me about Foden was his control, only Mahrez can bring a ball down better than him. If he can slot into a muddle 3 next year it will be great but where does that leave Bernardo

I thought Foden played that right sided midfield role really well.

That really is something when he can perform to such a high standard in a League Cup final and be such an effective player in central midfield and right-sided midfield.

We've got a top player on our hands, someone worthy of stepping into David Silva's boots.

Sancho left after Sanchez signed for the rags. He was out of contract and wouldn’t sign another one. Which other title chasing team in England play a 17 year old?

That's just silly, simplistic fan talk. If you are Pep you have to juggle a set of issues at any one time. First of all you have to win games and win trophies. Then you've got to ease players back from injury. Or get them to play their way into form. You've got players who might have been knocking on your door in the summer asking for reassurances of more game time. You've got players in the last year of their contract. You've got to think about players who will be needed several game sin advance due to other injuries. And of course you've got to develop and please kids.

Pep has managed this impossible balance perfectly. Sticking Phil in yesterday would have been the highlight of his career. Of course he would want more game time but it is nowhere near as simple as that.

Yes. Sancho turned down the contract he was offered the summer that Pep tried to sign Sanchez for £60m but Arsenal refused.

If you think that the club publicly going after a £60m player in his position didn't affect Sancho's decision then I've got some tartan paint to sell you etc.

Squad game. Look at the rotation between the Bernabeu and Wembley. I thought City might rest 3/4 players from midweek and so it proved.

A bonus for the games ahead.
