Just seen their first goal again for the umpteenth time and it really was a masterclass in shocking defending by the whole team. Seriously awful.

Absolutely it was ....

what Clichy was doing , i don't know ...... and then , after the cross was whipped in , it was keystone cops stuff ... Hart ultimately on the floor again , others too slow to react , nobody able to back Clichy up or cut that cross out.

Plus, at the start, Sergio, then Yaya and Fern all allow Kim to run with the ball and leave him to the defence.

Exactly this, although the defence should have done better they were offered no protection from the midfield. Disappointed Fernandinho and yaya let him run

We could have had Messi on the pitch yesterday and we still would have gotten beat.

Our problem was that we were playing our third choice defender and fifth choice centre midfielder as our centre back pairing. Due to this, the understanding and organisation at set pieces wasn't there and they punished us for it
Exactly this but people want to blame Yaya ,Fernandinho, Pellegrini, for us being poor defensively.

We cocked up the set pieces and that's all there is to it.

Chapter closed.

I don't have too many worries about our home form.

It's away from home. We just don't do enough or work hard enough.

I'd like to see players like Milner and Rodwell play away from home. They put a shift in and are 100% reliable

Hard to disagree ......

for all Yayas class , i can't recall him creating much yesterday ..... other than one through ball into the area that Dzeko might have made a bit more of.
Same thing with Silva who looks an imposter of the player he was in the first few months of the title winning season.

Seems like the creativity has been zapped from him lately.

Was disappointed with him most, but like Aguero, he's one of Bluemoon's untouchables.

That's what you get when you play Silva wide....nothing

Silva is not a wide player, it's a waste of time having him on the pitch, you just as well stick me out there, he has to play behind the front two.

When Milner came on and they put Silva in the middle, that's when we started creating some openings and spreading the ball out wide and in the channels.

Mata is the same at Chelsea, play him out wide and you just as well save the ink, play with ten men and not bother putting there names on the teamsheet.

Yep , we struggle to defend 'as a team' ......

Cardiff , at times , had ALL their players back as we poured forward ..... Dzekos goal was a brilliant strike , and they probably really couldn't do much about that .... and by the time Negredo scored the result was almost 'set in stone' , the best we could hope for by that very late stage was to snatch an equaliser , which Negredo almost did when he put the ball over the bar.

You've demoted Garcia a place overnight?

Rightly so,imo.

Youre right though Damo, our organisation was none existant and it affected the confidence of those around them as was evident in Zaba's performance in particular.

I would have demoted him to eighth choice but I couldn't remember the names of those lads in the EDS.

I'm usually positive and optimistic when it comes to City and City players but Javi Garcia is Gelson Fernandes levels of useless. I don't even know what the strengths of his games are, I just see his terrible weaknesses and some slightly less terrible weaknesses

Re: Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

The defending was Hughesesq.

To give Mancini his due he was very parsimonius when it came to conceding goals.

Even with a back four of

Zabba Micah Lescott and Kolarov

he would have had us defending better than that yesterday.

The big question now is how Pelle responds. Does he learn his lesson a la AVB and start from the back or does he go Kevin Keegan style and say you score 3 we score 4. I hope it is the former.

Silva:

He can't find the killer pass to players running into space if none of the idle f***ers are running into space. Only Zabaleta was doing it, and he has all the touch, control and finishing of an elephant trying to play a piano. He might as well have passed it to the ref for all the attacking threat Zabba was yesterday. To be fair Negrado showed lots of movement and Silva will find him time and time again, but it was far too little too late yesterday.
Zab was there for one in the first half - Silva had a go at goal and missed whereas Zab was well placed. It's easy just to yell "shoot" but clear chances against a packed defence don't come easy - with the defence looking dodgy you can see why midfielders weren't keen on getting forward - I think Fernandinho was in their penalty area once all game.

This is not a one day thing Danamy, even when played centrally, David Silva has become very inconsistent and doesn't put me out of my seat anymore.

And Silva was hardly truly wide as against Cardiff, he had free reign as he typically does. Most times, I saw him deep with Yaya and Dinho.

Re: Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Just seen the first goal and I believe it was Lescott's fault. He should've anticipated Clichy getting beat and covered the near post area, easily intercepting the cross. Surely as a left sided centre half this should be second nature. 2nd and 3rd goals collective failure through lack of organisation, possibly due to switching back to a man to man system and/or 3rd and 5th choice centre halves.

Tbh I think we've been vulnerable defensively for a long time. Our stats are skewed by our superior possession, however we have been often exposed by swift counter attacks and whipped in set pieces. Not unresolvable though

Re: Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Wasn't particularly impressed with pellers and his supposed tactical mind. Far too much passing... an imitation of last season, and I found myself screaming at the TV for those with the ball to shoot instead of looking to keep passing it, in the hope of walking the ball in the net.

I think they just ENJOY having the ball and passing it around rather than having any intent of scoring with it.
Although not something you'd maybe want to hear, other teams, particularly our closest rivals ENJOY scoring, not passing, they get the ball into promising areas by any means necessary, our ability to get the ball in the box was very 1-directional.

Aguero was none existent the whole game and he too became a victim of passing too much. We couldn't break 10/11 man defence down, so pellers brings off our wide option? Sure he wasn't having an effective game, but it's a better than putting more central players where it was as if they were being rubbed against a cheese grater every attack.

The worst part of it all was the passing was actually VERY POOR. Silva and Yaya, the most prominent passers of the ball looked very feeble on all accounts.

A bit more effort, and brighter tactical changes against those who park the bus and lump it forward and perhaps the result would have been different. They made the game look like hard work, and it really shouldn't have.

Pellers seemed unable to be critical about his team, at least on air, I can only hope he let them know in the dressing room that the lack of intent and complacency was totally unacceptable.

Said it and thought for a long time too that Hart needs rotating if he's to continue letting goals in. He never seems to commandeer his box very well, as a goalkeeper he has the right to jump and fly into people to get the ball from crosses and he just didn't, he didn't show the intent to do so. For me Panti is the best keeper on-form keeper we have at the moment.
