Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Re: Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Never listened to the after match commentary. Just out of interest was there any criticism of man marking as a system, given the usual amount of shit given to zonal marking when this goes wrong.

Same thing with Silva who looks an imposter of the player he was in the first few months of the title winning season.

Seems like the creativity has been zapped from him lately.

Was disappointed with him most, but like Aguero, he's one of Bluemoon's untouchables.

That's what you get when you play Silva wide....nothing

Silva is not a wide player, it's a waste of time having him on the pitch, you just as well stick me out there, he has to play behind the front two.

When Milner came on and they put Silva in the middle, that's when we started creating some openings and spreading the ball out wide and in the channels.

Mata is the same at Chelsea, play him out wide and you just as well save the ink, play with ten men and not bother putting there names on the teamsheet.
This is not a one day thing Danamy, even when played centrally, David Silva has become very inconsistent and doesn't put me out of my seat anymore.

And Silva was hardly truly wide as against Cardiff, he had free reign as he typically does. Most times, I saw him deep with Yaya and Dinho.

We'll agree to disagree then, given the free role behind the front two on a regular basis we'll see the return of the old Silva and have you out of your seat again.

Like you've said above you saw him deep with Yaya and Dinho which isn't his game, he should be receiving the ball higher up the pitch in a central position and picking out the runs early, imho.

Clichy just took Kim to lightly and just allowed him to run past him,I really hope he would have learned his lesson

Re: Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

As far as I'm concerned Aguero and Silva both had a shocker of a game yesterday, this is ultimately why Cardiff had the time to get forward so much (rather than defend ala Newcastle), they only seemed to come to life from 75 minutes, bit too late then!

Re: Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

I completely agree with Dan on Silva. He isn't a wide player and it's problematic playing him from wide away from home. It means that Clichy is asked to do too much down the left, whereas Silva is drifting into an already congested area in front of the opposition back 4.

As I posted in another thread there's a genuine discussion to be had about whether we need a specialist wide left player, but only if it turns out that we don't intend to use Jovetic there. For my money, that's what I expect to see when he's fit. A system in which only one of Kun/Dzeko plays, with Silva, Jove, Navas in behind. Jove and Navas provide width and direct running.

In a way it was good that this defeat came so early in the season it would or should make every player realize u can't take things for granted

Zonal marking at corners?
I notice you've put a ? at the end suggesting its a question, suggesting you didn't see the corners, well no it wasn't, it was man for man, and it didn't work, much like the zonal marking didn't work last year in some games.

The type of defending employed shouldn't matter if its done correctly, and that was the problem, the players got the basics wrong, who knows if that is down to the change, or just simple incompetence, personally I reckon its the latter.

Definitely agree with this ... the player did get to hide behind their antipathy for Mancini at times last season - they won't have that excuse this season. Plus everyone bar the new players we've signed will be playing for their futures. Txiki in particular is known to be ruthless when he wants rid of players, and equally Pellegrini can be ruthless if he feels a player isn't pulling his weight.

Re: Cardiff Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Regarding the Silva debate, and the comments hasn't been the same since early 11/12. Yes he was poor yesterday, but he did keep trying.

On Monday against Newcastle he was our best player for me, he drifted across the pitch from one side to the other swapping with Navas a number of times, dragging defenders out of position, giving space for others, and he pulled the strings of our attacking play, his passing was as good as its been since early 11/12, and even got stuck into tackles. In games like yesterday we need another option, somebody who can bully but still play. Yaya can do that, so why not utilise it away from home ?

The way some players just walked past Yaya yesterday with no effort did worry me a bit and it's something that needs to change.
