The simple facts are that a man in his forties assaulted a child with a weapon (spit) in a road rage attack.
The question should not be whether he loses his job but whether he should go to prison.

Spitting is considered common assault and carries a maximum custodial sentence of 6 months, the same as being found driving a vehicle under the influence.
Also, the offence of ‘road rage’ does not exist in U.K. law.

Not sure why either offence needs to be 'worse' than the other. Both Carragher and the cretin behind the wheel should have known better and are culpable.
Goading someone whilst driving, particularly with a child in the car, should count as a road traffic offence, plus there's using a phone while driving. Hopefully this idiot gets a fine and ban.
As for Carragher, he should have grown out of spitting, and been in his roles long enough to know better than allow a member of the public to wind him up to that extent.
